A stabilizing controller to balance, support and orient a device. The stabilizing controller includes a gimbal assembly positioned at the center of balance of the stabilizing controller with the device attached. A handle is disposed around the gimbal assembly. A center post is coincident with at least a portion of the centerline of the gimbal apparatus and has a longitudinal balancing axis Z. Motion about at least one of the mutually perpendicular X-axis, Y-axis, and the Z-axis is isolated from the motion of the other axes via one or more assemblies, including a magnetic braking assembly.

Enhanced variable-height mounting arms comprise structures that allow any of improved cleanability and/or improved adjustment of height or counterbalancing. An exemplary enhanced variable-height arm comprises an upper shell structure that substantially extends over the upper and side regions of the mounting arm, forming a four-bar linkage. A lower cover is mounted to the upper cover across the bottom side of the arm, and defines holes therethrough for extension of the opposing ends of the arm. The variable-height arm further comprises a bias element, wherein one end of the bias element is adjustably fixable in relation to a defined curve, non-linear path or slot, such as within a curved slot. The variable-height arm may preferably further comprise a mechanism for adjusting any of the height or counterbalance for the structure.

A post extending from a medical device facilitates transfer of the device between first and second support structures. Each of the first and second structures includes a mounting receptacle, configured to receive the post, fitting either tightly or loosely thereabout, depending on a position of the post along an axis of the receptacle. When the first receptacle holds the post and is moved in a first direction, the post may be moved into the second receptacle, which is then moved in a second direction, to tighten the second receptacle and loosen the first receptacle about the post. When the second receptacle holds the post, the first receptacle may be moved in the first direction, until the post enters the first receptacle, and, then, the second receptacle may be moved in a direction opposite to the second direction, to loosen the second receptacle and tighten the first receptacle about the post.

Apparatus and methods for raising a retractable mast (10) comprise engaging at least three flat flexible strips (102, 104, 106) such that each strip forms a side of a mast. Each strip comprises a set of tabs and slots disposed along opposite edges of the strips. The housing may further comprise a feed mechanism (80, 94, 156, 170) operable to interlock the at least three lengths of flexible strips by drawing the strips together causing each tab of each strip to engage with a slot of an adjacent flexible strip.

A tripod support (1) for video-photographic equipment comprises a crosspiece (2) with a tube (26), a column (3) with a shaft sliding inside the tube of the crosspiece, the column having a plate (7) arranged to be fitted at one end of the shaft (8) and an end plug (9) arranged to be fitted at the axially opposite end of the shaft as well as removable fixing means between the plate and shaft (6,18) and between the shaft and plug (19,23) respectively to remove the plate and plug from the shaft and the shaft from the tube. The fixing means onto the plate and onto the plug are mutually connectable, as an alternative to being connected to the shaft, to directly fix the plate and the plug to the opposite ends of the tube of the crosspiece when removed from the shaft.

A method of treating a tissue site is provided. The method includes applying a reduced pressure to a tissue site with a reduced pressure source. A source pressure is monitored at the reduced pressure source, and a differential pressure is determined between the source pressure and the desired tissue site pressure. If a blockage is present between the reduced pressure source and the tissue site, the differential pressure is limited to a first maximum differential pressure. If no blockage is present between the reduced pressure source and the tissue site, the differential pressure is limited to a second maximum differential pressure.
