There is provided a method of improving a taper interface between a first prosthetic implant and a second prosthetic implant. The method has steps of a) selecting a first prosthetic implant of a desired dimension, having a first taper interface (20); b) selecting a second prosthetic implant of a desired dimension, having a second taper interface (28), the second taper interface (28) being receivably engagable with the first taper interface (20); c) applying an abrasive medium to the first and/or second taper interface (20, 28); d) interengaging the first prosthetic implant and second prosthetic implant at the first and second taper interfaces (20, 28); and e) generating a relative motion between the first prosthetic implant and second prosthetic implant to abrasively improve a taper fit between the first prosthetic implant and second prosthetic implant at the first and second taper interfaces (20, 28).

A device (1) for holding in position a product (1000) to be processed comprises a base (2) connectable by magnetic interaction to a work surface (51) of an apparatus (50) for tumbling or polishing and comprising a first portion (3) and a second portion (4) movable along an operating direction (T) mutually towards or away from a first and a second operating position. The device (1 ) also comprises a retaining support (5) connected to the base (2) and configured to hold in a stable position a product (1000) to be processed between a first and a second retaining element (6, 7). Between the first and the second portion (3, 4) of the base (2) an actuation member (8) is interposed, configured to move the same portions (3, 4) between the first operating position and the second operating position. A further object of the invention is a method for holding in position a product (1000) to be processed.

A magnetic field manipulated localized polishing system includes a container holding a volume of a magnetic abrasive fluid. The magnetic abrasive fluid contains abrasive particles. A motor is positioned under the container. A magnet is coupled to the motor such that the motor induces rotation of the magnet. A workpiece is suspended in the container.

There is disclosed a method of manufacturing a coining die comprising the steps of: forming a blank billet; polishing the blank billet by moving it in an abrasive medium; pressing the polished blank billet with a working punch to form a coining die; and polishing the coining die by moving it in an abrasive medium. There is also disclosed an apparatus for the same.

There is disclosed coin billet or coining die holder (108) for a robotic arm of a polishing machine for polishing a coining die or coin billet. The holder comprises a base (114); a magnetic retainer (122) which is arranged to magnetically retain a billet or die to the base; and a supporting sidewall (128)extending away from the base in an axial direction. The supporting sidewall is arranged to at least partially surround the outer surface of a billet or die retained to the base by the magnetic retainer so as to restrict lateral movement of the billet or die with respect to the base.

Disclosed are various embodiments for a system and method of processing a surface using a mixture containing magnetic particles. A mixture is disposed on a workpiece and exposed to a dynamic magnetic field. In response to the dynamic magnetic field, the magnetic particles of the mixture may move along the workpiece. The movement of the magnetic particles creates a pattern of grooves on the surface of the workpiece.

A machine for finishing automotive wheels (18) having a rotatable turret (136), a plurality of containers or barrel cages (134) journaled on the turret capable of selective rotation independent of the turret, with cartridges (132) loaded into said containers or cages from the end through openings in the turret and fixtures in the containers that stably hold automotive wheels in said containers for selective reception of said media. The wheels are held in stable position by a fixture that comprises two part cushioned supports for permitting selective reception of media about the surface of the wheel that requires finishing. The cartridges may be loaded in and out of the barrel cages by means of a conveyor system (130).
