Abstract:
The present disclosure details the preparation of hydroxamic-acid based bifunctional chelators and their use in conjugating metal ions to proteins and nucleic acids for tumor or tissue imaging or therapy purposes. Some preferred aspects of the disclosure involve the preparation of trisuccin, chemical name N-((tris)(2-N-benzyloxyaminocarbonylethyl)) methylsuccinamic acid, which is a hydroxamic acid/succinate based structure that is particularly useful for binding radionuclides such as 99mTc, 186Re and 67Cu.
Abstract:
A purified pneumococcal surface protein A (PspA) comprises a truncated form of the PspA protein which is immunoprotective and contains the protective epitopes of PspA. The PspA protein is soluble in physiologic solution and lacks at least the cell membrane anchor region of the whole protein. The protein is formed by insertion-duplication of mutagenesis of S. pneumoniae with pspA gene and expression of the truncated protein into the growth medium.
Abstract:
A cryoprecipitation method for concentrating fibrinogen and the fibrinogen product prepared thereby, wherein plasma is separated from whole blood, the plasma is subjected to two freeze-thaw cycles in a closed-bag system, the plasma is centrifuged and the concentrated fibrinogen product is separated from the plasma. In the freeze-thaw cycles, the plasma is preferably slow-frozen in an immersion freezer at a temperature of about -18 DEG C or below and quick-thawed at a temperature of about 4 DEG C. The method increases product yield and fibrinogen concentration. The tensile strength of the fibrinogen concentrate is improved. The fibrinogen product can be used to prepare fibrin glue from random single-donor or autologous plasma. The fibrinogen concentrate has a concentration of about 2,000-6,000 mg/dl and a volume of about 3-5 ml.
Abstract:
Mammalian pituitary tissues contain newly discovered antiproliferation factor that inhibits in vitro cellular proliferation of lymphoid, neuroendocrine and neural cells but not of fibroblast or endothelial cells. The present invention is directed to this antiproliferation factor which has been named suppressin and is a protein of Mr 63,000, sensitive to reduction and has a pI of 8.1. Suppressin is provided as a cell free preparation or in homogeneous form. The invention provides methods to purify suppressin, antibodies against suppressin and their use in recombinant DNA molecules encoding suppressin, and pharmaceutical compositions for inducing regression or inhibiting growth of tumor or cancer cells and autoimmune diseases.
Abstract:
An elastomeric material, capable of reversibly contracting and relaxing by an inverse temperature transition, in a form suitable for use as a protective layer between a mammalian repair site and a second tissue site whereby adhesion involving said repair site and said second tissue site is substantially prevented.
Abstract:
A method of stimulating chemotaxis toward a prosthetic device is disclosed, which method comprises incorporating a chemotactic peptide of the formula B -X-(AGVPGLGVG)n-(AGVPGFGVG)m-Y-B , wherein B is H or a biocompatible N-terminal group; B is OH, OB where B is a non-toxic metal ion, or a biocompatible C-terminal group; X is GVPGFGVG, GVPGLGVG, VPGFGVG, VPGLGVG, PGFGVG, PGLGVG, GFGVG, GLGVG, FGVG, LGVG, GVG, VG, G or a covalent bond; Y is AGVPGFGV, AGVPGLGV, AGVPGFG, AGVPGLG, AGVPGF, AGVPGL, AGVPG, AGVP, AGV, AG, A or a covalent bond; n is an integer from 0 to 50; m is an integer from 0 to 50; with the proviso that when both n and m are 0, X and Y are selected so that the chemotactic peptide has at least 3 amino acid residues in the X and Y positions combined; into a surface of a prosthetic device.
Abstract:
A mechanochemical engine capable of desalinating sea water or brackish water by the conversion of mechanical work to chemical work, which comprises: a) a housing containing an elastomeric material capable of being stretched, to thereby allow salt-diminished water to move into the elastomeric material, while substantially repelling solvated salt ions from entry thereto, b) means for stretching and relaxing said elastomeric material in said housing, in connection with said elastomeric material; and c) means for uptake of sea water or brackish water into said housing, means for draining concentrated salt water from said housing, and means for draining desalinated water from said housing.
