摘要: An energy absorbing assembly (10) is provided for decelerating an object that impacts the assembly. The assembly comprises an incident member (12) having an incident surface (14) that meets the impacting object and at least one energy absorbing member (16) attached to an attachment region (17) of an opposing face (18) of the incident member (12) for accommodating deformation of the assembly (10). The energy absorbing member (16) comprises a lattice of interconnected strands (20), wherein the strands (20) intersect to define a plurality of cells (22). The energy absorbing member (16) is oriented such that the plane of each cell (22) is substantially perpendicular to the attachment region (17) in order to maximize energy absorption over a given distance. The lattice collapses and at least some of the cells (22) become at least partially closed during energy absorption.

摘要: An energy absorber for interposing between two members to absorb energy of motion which may be induced between the two comprises a core (3) of a plastically deformable energy absorbing material such as lead and means surrounding the core such as layers of steel plates (2) and rubber (1) in a sandwich-like structure. The end plates (4) are formed with holes (5), into which the ends of the core (3) project. During construction, the support structure (1, 2) is stretched, allowing end caps (6) to be fitted. The support structure (1, 2) is then relaxed, which applies approximately hydrostatic pressure to the core (3). Induced motion is transferred as shear forces across the core (3). The hydrostatic pressure applied to the core (3) preferably exceeds the shear yield stress of the energy absorbing material of the core (3).

摘要: An energy dissipator comprises a first U-shaped member and a second U-shaped member. The first U-shaped member has a first closed end, a pair of first spaced-apart legs extending from the first closed end and a first open end opposite the first closed end. The first closed end and pair of first legs lie in a first member plane. The second U-shaped member is coaxial with the first U-shaped member and has a second closed end, a pair of second spaced-apart legs extending from the second closed end and a second open end opposite the second closed end. The second closed end and the pair of second legs lie in a second member plane. The second U-shaped member is positioned to oppose the first U-shaped member and is rotated relative to the first U-shaped member such that the second member plane intersects the first member plane.
