Abstract:
An inflatable knee bolster (232) for a vehicle occupant is mounted in opposing relation to the knees of a vehicle occupant. The bolster is an expansible chamber of multipiece construction having a face portion (238) and a separate three dimensional expansible body portion (240). The face portion (238) and body portion (240) are joined about their peripheries to define and substantially enclose the chamber. The expansible body portion (240) is formed from injection molded polymeric material and has one or more integrally molded at least partially collapsible pleated profile elements (259) disposed along the sides and across the top of the body portion (240) in raised and lowered profile with respect to the face portion (238). Deformable mounting brackets (277, 279) extend outwardly from the body portion (240) for attachment to the vehicle. The materials forming the face and body portions are of either similar or dissimilar chemical and physical character. Actuation of an inflator (270) in fluid communication with the bolster (232) pressurizes the expansible body (240) causing at least a portion of the pleated profile elements (259) to collapsibly deform such that the volume of the enclosed chamber is expanded and the face portion (238) is thrust outwardly to an extended position.

A modular instrument panel design is disclosed. The modular instrument panel includes a cross-car beam (14) for providing structural support for the instrument panel (10), a base panel (16) attached to the cross-car beam for providing a visible base surface, a center stack (18) connected to the base panel (16), the center stack having a visible center stack surface, and a top panel (12) attachable to the base panel (16), the top panel having a visible top surface. The top panel (12) and center stack (18) are exchangable with at least one other top panel and at least one other center stack to provide visible surfaces which are different than the visible surfaces of the first top and first center stack surfaces.

The invention relates to a restraining device for a covering part (1) of an airbag arrangement, having a spring-elastic clamp as fixing element (5), which is used to fix the restraining device (3) on a column (2) of an automobile. A retaining element (4), which alike the fixing element (5) is also formed by a sheet metal part, retains the covering part (1) that is additionally secured on the fixing element (5) by means of a limiting strap (6). When the airbag is deployed, the catch tabs (11) embodied on the retaining element (4) are bent upwards, whereby the covering part (1) is released.
Abstract:
An apparatus (10) for deploying an air bag (24) through an automotive dash panel (12) includes an air bag door (16) integrally formed in the panel (12) and defined by a frangible edge (18) of reduced cross section. A dispenser (20) supports the air bag (24) behind the door (16). A metal reaction plate (28) is positioned between the air bag (24) and the door (16). When the air bag (24) inflates it forces the reaction plate (28) to bend around a horizontal hinge line (36). As the reaction plate (28) rotates it concentrates inflation force along a lower portion (120) of the frangible door edge (18). This helps predictably separate the door (16) from the dash panel (12) by tearing along the lower door edge (120) and allowing the tear to propagate up two side edges (122). In one embodiment, the tear also propagates across an upper edge (124) to completely separate the door from the panel (12). At least one, and preferably two or three tethers (50) limit how far the door can travel during air bag inflation. A stop member (96) may be included to limit reaction plate (28) bending. After deployment, the reaction plate (28) remains in a position that prevents the door (16) from returning to its original position.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Fahrergassackmodul (10) zur Montage an einer um eine Lenkachse (A) drehbaren Lenkvorrichtung (12), umfassend einen aufblasbaren Gassack (14) und ein Modulgehäuse (16) mit einer zur Lenkachse (A) im Wesentlichen parallelen Gehäuseachse (B), welches einen Aufnahmeraum (18) für den gefalteten Gassack (14) definiert, wobei der Aufnahmeraum (18) begrenzt ist durch eine Gehäusefrontwand (20), die im montierten Zustand des Fahrergassackmoduls (10) einem Fahrzeuginsassen zugewandt ist, eine axial beabstandete, gegenüberliegende Gehäuserückwand (22) sowie eine Gehäuseseitenwand (24), welche sich zwischen der Gehäusefrontwand (20) und der Gehäuserückwand (22) erstreckt, wobei die Gehäuseseitenwand (24) einen Öffnungsabschnitt (26) aufweist, über den sich der Gassack (14) bei einer Aktivierung des Fahrergassackmoduls (10) entfaltet, und wobei die Gehäusefrontwand (20) relativ zur Gehäuserückwand (22) geneigt ist. Darüber hinaus betrifft die Erfindung auch eine Lenkvorrichtung (12) mit einem solchen Fahrergassackmodul (10).

Protection systems for vehicle occupants, such as airbag assemblies, can be deployed from within a vehicle. Such airbag assemblies can include a frontal airbag cushion and a knee restraint to absorb an occupant's impact energy during a collision event. Such protection systems can be particularly useful in vehicles that provide generous leg room to an occupant.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Emblem (1) für ein Gassackmodul mit einem inneren Dekorationselement (11) und einem äußeren Dekorationselement (12), das mit dem inneren Dekorationselement (11) über Stege ( 13) verbunden ist, wobei das innere Dekorationselement (11) und das äußere Dekorationselement (12) in einem montierten Zustand am Gassackmodul sichtbar sind. Die Erfindung zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass wenigstens zwischen dem inneren Dekorationselement (11) und dem äußeren Dekorationselement ( 12) ein Füllelement (20) angeordnet ist, das die Stege (13) verdeckt. Die Erfindung betrifft ferner ein Gassackmodul und ein Lenkrad mit einem derartigen Emblem sowie ein entsprechendes Herstellungsverfahren.

Ein Airbagmodul ( 10) mit einem einen Gasgenerator (12) und einen eingefalteten Gassack (13) aufnehmenden Gehäuse (11), dessen Entfaltungsöffnung (14) durch eine vor Auslösung des Airbagmoduls ( 10) mittels wenigstens einer Sollbruchstelle (18) an dem Gehäuse (11) fixierten Abdeckklappe (15) verschlossen ist und zur Befestigung der geöffneten Abdeckklappe ( 15) an dem Gehäuse (11) ein zwischen Abdeckklappe (15) und Gehäuse (11) verlaufendes Fangband (20) angeordnet ist, ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die auf ihrer Außenseite ein Herstelleremblem (17) tragende Abdeckklappe (15) mittels eines Scharniers (19) an dem Gehäuse (11) festgelegt ist und das Fang band (20) mit seinem einen Ende (22) an einem gehäusefesten Teil befestigt ist und zumindest einen Bereich der Abdeckklappe (15) und/oder des Herstelleremblems (17) in einer Schlaufe (27) einfasst.
