Protection systems for vehicle occupants, such as airbag assemblies, can be deployed from within a vehicle. Such airbag assemblies can include a frontal airbag cushion and a knee restraint to absorb an occupant's impact energy during a collision event. Such protection systems can be particularly useful in vehicles that provide generous leg room to an occupant.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an airbag for a knee airbag apparatus which is rapidly deployed upward along a shape of an instrument panel. The airbag includes a front panel; and a rear panel coupled to the front panel to form an inflation chamber, wherein the front panel neighbors to the instrument panel and the rear panel neighbors to knees of a passenger when the airbag is inflated, and the rear panel includes a wrinkle portion which is deployed at a position corresponding to a housing connecting portion to which the instrument panel and a rear end of the housing neighbor when the airbag is inflated, so that an additional inflation chamber is formed.

Es wird eine Knieschutzeinrichtung mit einem aufblasbaren Körper und einer Inflatoreinheit zum Aufblasen des aufblasbaren Körpers beschrieben, wobei der aufblasbare Körper ein Kunststoffteil ist, welches in einem Formprozess, insbesondere einem Blasformprozess, hergestellt und in einem dem Formprozess nachfolgenden Verfahrensschritt gefaltet wurde und wobei der Inflator mit dem aufblasbaren Körper verbunden ist. Zur weiteren Rationalisierung der Herstellung der Knieschutzeinrichtung weist der aufblasbare Körper ein eine Öffnung umlaufendes Gewinde auf, auf das die Inflatoreinheit aufgeschraubt oder in das die Inflatoreinheit eingeschraubt ist.

A knee airbag device (10) i includes a column cover (46) that covers a rear end portion of a steering column (12) from below; and an airbag module (30). The airbag module (30) is disposed in a column lower cover (48) and includes a gas generation portion (34) that generates gas and a knee airbag (36) that is housed in the airbag module (30) in a folded state, and is inflated and deployed by the gas supplied by the gas generation portion (34). The airbag module (30) is connected to the steering column (12) by a snap-fit action.
