Abstract:
Car seat fabric for facilitating reliable airbag deployment, the fabric including, at least one weakened failure zone located within the fabric, wherein the failure zone is adapted to split and allow passage of an airbag therethrough when a force from expansion of the airbag is applied to the failure zone.
Abstract:
A vehicle seat includes an airbag and a concentrator strap that facilitates simplified assembly and enhanced airbag performance. The concentrator strap includes an attachment feature that cooperates with a corresponding feature of the seat frame in a manner that reduces cost, cycle time, and assembly errors. The concentrator strap extends over the airbag module and into an attachment opening, where an attachment tab engages the seat frame. The concentrator strap can be pre-attached to a seat cover and extended to engage the seat frame after the seat cover is partially installed over the seat frame, as the attachment tab can be configured for engagement without the need for special tools.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A panel for use over a vehicle airbag includes a skin layer with a tear seam formed therein. The skin layer is made from a material that includes a polymer matrix and one or more transmissivity-reducers in the form of microflake fillers or fillers having a monomodal particle size distribution. The transmissivity-reducers are included in an amount that reduces the transmissivity of light through the material to reduce variation in laser scoring processes and also in an amount that does not substantially alter the mechanical properties of the polymer matrix. Skin layers made from these materials can be used in laser scoring processes of TPO coverings that are thinner than previously known.
Abstract:
An instrument panel having a deployable cover for an airbag module, the instrument panel including: a substrate layer with a tear seam formed therein; a bi-laminate layer comprising a foam layer and an outer layer with a tear seam formed therein, the tear seam of the bi-laminate layer of being aligned with the tear seam of the substrate layer, wherein the substrate layer and the bi-laminate layer are secured to each other and wherein the tear seam of the substrate layer and the tear seam of the bi-laminate layer are each separately formed prior to the substrate layer and the bi-laminate layer being secured to each other.
