A rotary press doctor blade (12) in which one or both sides (19,21) are provided with a fully or partially unreleasable coating of a low surface energy substance (46), whose surface energy is between 10 and 60 mN/m. This prevents in particular disruptive ink deposits from forming on one side of the doctor opposite the retaining capacity. Otherwise the ink deposits would reach a doctored surface of the ink gate roll in an uncontrolled or random manner.
