The present invention relates to a process of producing a cellulosic fibre web comprising a) providing a cellulosic suspension to which a debonder system can be added, b) dewatering the cellulosic suspension and forming a cellulosic fibre web, and c) applying a smectite clay to said cellulosic fibre web with or without adding a polymer in an amount from about 0.01 to about 2 kg/t dry cellulosic fibres. The invention also relates to a web obtainable by the process.

A process for preparing polysaccharide gel particles for use in paper or paperboard production, wherein the polysaccharide is selected from the group consisting of: cellulose, starch, xylan, galactan, glucuronoxylan, arabinoxylan, xyloglucan, galactomannan, chitosan and their dervatives, which are useful in a papermaking process, is characterized by the following steps: preparing a bulk gel of a highly poly-disperse polysaccharide dispersion with a particle size of up to 500 μm; refining the highly poly-disperse polysaccharide dispersion with a refining step especially selected from milling, high intensity mixing or sonication to create particle sizes between 1 μm and 50 μm. Furthermore a pulp furnish for use in paper or paper board production comprising the polysaccharide gel particles is provided.

A process of making paper or paperboard with improved ashretention relative to totalretention comprising the steps of providing a thick stock cellulosic suspension that contains filler, diluting the thick stock suspension to form a thin stock suspension, in which the filler is present in the thin stock suspension in an amount of at least 10% by weight based on dry weight of thin stock suspension, flocculating the thick stock suspension and/or the thin stock using a polymeric retention/drainage system, draining the thin stock suspension on a screen to form a sheet and then drying the sheet, in which the polymeric retention/drainage system comprises, i) a water-soluble branched anionic polymer and ii) a water-soluble cationic or amphoteric polymer, wherein the anionic polymer is present in the thick stock or thin stock suspension prior to the addition of the cationic or amphoteric polymer. The process brings about improved ash retention relative to total retention.

The invention relates to a method for treatment of cellulose-based material comprising a coupling step and a hydrophobization step. The coupling step comprises the provision of a coupling solution comprising titanium (IV) isopropoxide (TTIP) or a basic solution of zinc oxide and the immersion of the cellulose-based material into the coupling solution. The following hydrophobization step comprises the provision of a hydrophobization solution comprising a hydrophobic compound and the immersion of the cellulose-based material in the hydrophobization solution, yielding a hydrophobic cellulose-based material, followed by drying of the hydrophobic cellulose-based material. According to a second aspect of the invention a cellulose-based material is provided characterized by its omniphobic properties, a cellulose-TTIP hybrid layer and/or Zn O hybrid layer.
