A continuous process for the production of a dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic elastomer comprising a thermoplastic resin and a non-halogenated elastomer with a multiolefin content of greater than 3.5 mol% that has been modified in situ with a carboxylic anhydride. The process provides materials with improved elongation at break and ultimate tensile strength that can be produced economically and with reduced environmental impact.

A blend of polyisobutylene-based thermoplastic vulcanizate, styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene-styrene, low molecular weight liquid polybutene, polyolefin, polyphenylene ether, and, optionally, filler is disclosed which has good processability, lower compression set, and more effective barrier properties for oxygen than the same blend without the styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene-styrene and the polyphenylene ether. The blend is superior in oxygen transmission rate properties than a conventional styrenic block copolymer containing thermoplastic elastomer.

Provided are elastomeric compositions, such as a tire innerliner, comprising at least one isobutylene based elastomer and at least one hydrocarbon fluid additive ("HFA"). The compositions have improved cold temperature properties and are particularly useful as tire innerliners for an aircraft tire. The use of a HFA in the elastomeric composition may allow for the use of reduced amounts of secondary elastomers, such as natural rubber, while allowing for an improved balance in the composition's brittleness and permeability properties. Examples of useful HFAs include polyalphaolefins, high purity hydrocarbon fluids, and water white group III mineral oils.
