The present invention relates to a fixing apparatus including a tubular film, a heater provided at an inside of the film, a protection element provided at the inside of the film, and at least one conductive member provided at the inside of the film. The protection element includes two terminals and a switch that turns off to shut off power to the heater when the heater abnormally generates heat. A first end of the conductive member is electrically connected to one of the terminals of the protection element. The conductive member is not coated with an insulator, and a second end of the conductive member projects out of the film so that the cost of the fixing apparatus is reduced.

The present subject matter describes a heating unit. The heating unit comprises a heating element and a controlling unit coupled to the heating element to determine a desired value of a direct current (DC) voltage based on heating element parameters. The desired value is a value of DC voltage desired for operation of the heating element. The controlling unit computes a value of a duty cycle parameter based on device input parameters and the desired value of the DC voltage. The heating unit further comprises a power factor correction (PFC) unit coupled to the controlling unit and the heating element to convert an input alternating current (AC) voltage, received by the PFC unit from an AC supply, to a direct current (DC) voltage of the desired value based on the duty cycle parameter. The PFC unit provides the DC voltage to the heating element.

The control unit determines a state of at least one of the first, second, third and fourth temperature detection units based on a comparison between first and third rise rates of the first and third temperatures, respectively, or on a comparison between second and fourth rise rates of the second and fourth temperatures, respectively.

A fuser heater member for an electrophotographic imaging device, including a heater member. According to an example embodiment, the heater member includes positive temperature coefficient (PTC) material disposed along a width of a fuser nip of the fuser assembly; first and second electrodes disposed along disposed surfaces of the PTC material; an intermediate layer disposed over the second electrode; and at least one resistive trace disposed along the intermediate layer along the width of the fuser nip. The heater member includes a plurality of wire segments coupled to the first and second electrodes and the resistive elements for use in generating heat from at least one of the PTC material and the at least one resistive trace during a fusing operation.
