A belt type fixing apparatus includes a fixing belt, a fixing roller disposed to face the fixing belt, a nip forming member that is disposed inside the fixing belt and presses the fixing belt to the fixing roller to form a fixing nip, first and second regulating surfaces that are provided at opposite ends of the nip forming member and restrict an axial movement of the fixing belt, and first and second guide surfaces that are provided inside the fixing belt and guide rotation of the fixing belt. The first regulating surface and the second regulating surface include at least one regulating step portion which is not in contact with one end of the fixing belt, respectively. The first guide surface and the second guide surface include at least one guide step portion which is not in contact with an inner surface of the fixing belt, and the at least one regulating step portion and the guide step portion are formed to be staggered from each other.

A fusing device is provided. The fusing device includes a heating roller having two end regions and an inner region between the two end regions, a coil module, and a controller. The coil module includes a first coil arranged along an axial direction of the heating roller; two second coils, one second coil arranged in each end region of the heating roller; and a third coil arranged in the inner region of the heating roller. The controller controls current directions of currents in the first coil, the second coils, and the third coil.

A fuser assembly for an electrophotographic imaging device which transfers heat from overheated portions of the fuser assembly to portions having lesser temperatures. The fuser assembly includes a heating member; a backup roll disposed proximate to the heating member so as to form a fuser nip therewith; a heat transfer device in contact with backup roll; a positioning mechanism coupled to the heat transfer device for positioning the heat transfer device in a first position in which the heat transfer device contacts the backup roll, and a second position in which the heat transfer device is spaced apart from the backup roll; and a latch mechanism for latching the heat transfer device in the second position.

In one aspect of the invention, a fixing apparatus that heats a recording material having a toner image while conveying the recording material at a nip portion to make the toner image fix onto the recording material includes a cylindrical belt having a heat generating layer that generates heat by being energized and a contact for supplying electricity to the heat generating layer. The contact is in contact with one of an outer surface and an inner surface of an end of the belt in the generatrix direction of the belt. An electrically conductive layer is provided, along the direction of rotation of the belt, on a surface of the heat generating layer opposite to a surface of the heat generating layer at which the contact is present.
