    摘要: A hybrid propulsion system (8) for powering vehicles (V) such as class 8 DOT classified semi-tractor trucks under normal load conditions and at highway speeds comprises an internal combustion engine (14), an AC generator (20) powered by the engine (14), DC battery packs (26, 28), an AC/DC controller (22), and an AC electric motor (32) driving the drive train (33) of the vehicle (V). The AC generator (20) and the DC battery packs (26, 28) provide input to the AC/DC controller (22), which, in turn, converts the DC input from the DC battery packs (26, 28) via a DC circuit to AC so that the output from the AC/DC controller (22) to the electric motor (32) is AC for powering the vehicle (V). The DC battery packs (26, 28) may comprise thin plate flooded lead acid cells and may be connected in series, in parallel or a combination thereof. Vehicles (V) may be retrofitted to incorporate the propulsion system (8).

    摘要: A self -aligning bearing assembly (10) is disclosed which is capable of reacting both radial and axial loads. An inner bearing race (12) is connected to a rotatable shaft that is subjected to such loads. An outer bearing race (20) is installed within a housing (30) and is capable of movement in multiple directions with respect to the housing. The outer bearing race can rotate in planes corresponding to longitudinal sections of the outer race, i.e., rotational displacement. In addition, the outer bearing race can translate with respect to an inner wall of the housing in an axial direction of the housing, i.e., axial displacement. Such movemen is enabled by the use of radially displaceable thrust rings (40,42) which contact the outer bearing race, and control of the geometry of the outer bearing race and inner wall of the housing.

The process may be used to make decorated (12, 14, 16) auto glass with additional indicia (20a) such as serial numbers, bar codes, and the like. The substrate (10) with the applied coating may subsequently be shape formed and/or heat strengthened to produce a final product. The invention also provides a screen and a screen printed pattern which include a portion (20) that is subsequently laser ablated to provide specific information such as serialization. In one embodiment, the screen printed and laser ablated glass substrate (10) is fired. In another embodiment, screen printed patterns (20) may be laser ablated with no subsequent heat treatment required.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for remediating metal contaminants using hydrocarbons which stimulate the growth of hydrocarbon-utilizing bacteria. The metal contaminants may include heavy metals such as arsenic, antimony, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, iron, manganese, magnesium, radium, nickel, selenium, silver, thallium and zinc. The hydrocarbon may include alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, poly(alkene)s, poly(alkyne)s, aromatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbon polymers and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Butane is a particularly suitable hydrocarbon which stimulates the growth of butane-utilizing bacteria. Remediation may occur in-situ or exsitu, and may occur under aerobic, anaerobic or dual aerobic/anaerobic conditions. Examples of applications include the remediation of heavy metals, the remediation of arsenic impacted surface water, groundwater and/or soil, the remediation of acid mine drainage, and the treatment of spent metal plating solutions.

An embodiment of the monitor includes a head-mounted brain sensor (18) which passively senses acoustic signals generated from pulsing blood flow through a patient's brain. A reference sensor (25) may be mounted at another location on the patient's body to sense an arterial pulse, and the signals from the brain sensor (18) and reference sensor (25) may be compared. Another embodiment includes transmitters (14, 16) which generate acoustic signals in the brain which are also detected by the brain sensor (18) . A damage indicating material can be incorporated into a variety of packaging substrates, which may change color when exposed to oxygen, excessive heat and/or excessive pressure. An anti-counterfeiting taggant material may be used to provide track and trace capabilities. Exemplary products with which the present track and trace packaging may be used include packaged condoms, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, cannabis and the like.
