Abstract:
The embodiments herein are directed to dry wall waste mixtures, formed under pressure into example embodiments referred to herein as dry wall waste blocks (DWBs) and/or gypsum wallboard waste blocks (GWWBs) and tile structures. DWBs/GWWBs mixtures in particular, often incorporate a higher percentage in the composite mixtures from about 60% up to 85% of dry wall waste than other mixtures and beneficially often incorporates substantially all of the wallboard facing paper as part of the composite mixture. That is, waste processing is simplified by comingling core and paper layers in the final product. DWBs/ GWWBs mixtures utilize demolition and construction waste, replacing a high percentage of Portland cement with waste-derived binder.
Abstract:
Devices and methods for simultaneously measuring, in real time: 1) volumetric changes of a mammalian breast due to milk production and output, and 2) breast temperature, are provided. The devices are generally sensors which can be disposed within a wearable garment such as a bra.
Abstract:
Techniques for chemically recycling cellulose waste such as cotton are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method includes hydrolyzing a cotton waste and dissolving cellulose in the hydrolyzed cotton waste in an aqueous solution containing an alkali and one or more of urea ((NH2)2CO), polyethylene glycol, or thiourea (SC(NH2)2) to produce another aqueous solution containing dissolved cellulose. Then the another aqueous solution containing the dissolved cellulose can be extruded into a coagulation bath to coalesce the dissolved cellulose in the extruded solution, thereby reforming the dissolved cellulose from the cotton waste into a regenerated fiber.
Abstract:
A unique configuration is introduced herein for providing a ball machine pitching tip. A linear actuator is coupled to the disclosed ball tip herein having at least one member protruding outwardly from a base and radially positioned about a coupling aperture. Positioned selected frictional contact points configured to an inner surface of the at least one protruding member enables an imbalance of torque on the object as released from the gripping tip from a velocity provided by the linear accelerator. The result is the ability to provide a variety of flight patterns (spins) of a ball for a given sport.
Abstract:
Methods of producing particles of fiber and resin from fiber-resin composite materials are disclosed. The particles may be combined with a resin system and optionally combined with fillers, binders or reinforcements to produce new cured solid composite products.
Abstract:
The present embodiments are directed to a processing system and transport carrier components for sterilization or pasteurization. In particular, an example embodiment includes a transport carrier for carrying one or more items to be sterilized or pasteurized, wherein the transport carrier includes a carrier base and one or more cross members coupled to and extending between sides of the carrier base. In addition, the transport carrier includes a tray member configured from at least one material of construction selected from a metal, a metal alloy, and a plastic, wherein the tray member extends between ends along the sides of the carrier base, and wherein the tray member further comprises one or more apertures configured to receive the one or more items to be sterilized or pasteurized.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides compositions and related kits, devices, systems, and methods that incorporate antigen detection compositions comprising an antigen-binding molecule tethered to an artificial vesicle. The antigen-binding molecule selectively binds to an antigen of interest and the artificial vesicle encapsulates glucose.
Abstract:
Air filters formed from mats of protein-containing nanowires are provided. The nanowires are formed into a mat with pores that allow air to pass through while physically filtering particulate matter. The protein in the protein-containing nanowires also serves to chemically filter polluted air passed through the filter. Specifically, chemical functional groups from the many amino acids that comprise the protein of the protein-containing nanowire react with certain chemical pollutants (e.g., carbon monoxide and formaldehyde) in order to capture or otherwise neutralize the pollutant. Accordingly, the single nanofiber mat performs two filtering functions. Methods of filtering air using the provided air filters are also disclosed, as well as methods for making the air filters from protein-containing nanofibers.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides vesicle composition comprising a cell membrane and an agent for the treatment and identification of diseases. Methods of treatment and methods of making a vesicle composition are also provided.
Abstract:
A composition comprising: (a) fly ash cementitious binder; and (b) a chemical activator selected from sodium silicate, potassium silicate, sodium sulfate, sodium phosphate, calcium sulfate, potassium sulfate, potassium phosphate, CaO, Fe 2 O 3 , sodium chloride, calcium chloride, fine fraction of concrete waste from construction or demolition, cement kiln dust, or a combination thereof, wherein the fly ash is the only cementitious binder present in the composition and the CaO activator, if present, is present in an amount ≤ 10 weight percent, based on the total dry weight of the composition.
