Abstract:
A method of substituting a primary content (110) being transmitted on a primary channel (100) with a secondary content (220), characterized by said secondary content being a summary of a program (210) being currently transmitted on a secondary channel (200). Preferably the method comprises substitution of the secondary content (220) in response to a commercial break (120) being transmitted on the primary channel (100). Preferably the method comprises transmission of the primary content (110) following the substituted secondary content (220) that is time-shifted to allow the secondary content to be presented to its end. Preferably the method comprises subsequent to presenting the secondary content (220), the program being currently transmitted on the secondary channel (210) that is presented instead of the primary content (110). Preferably the method comprises transmission of the secondary content (220) that is prior to changing of the channel currently watched from the primary channel (100) to the secondary channel (200).
Abstract:
A method of capturing data content by a plurality of recorders is disclosed. Time synchronisation of recordings of multiple data recordings is a tedious and time consuming process. Currently available methods provide for time synchronisation by sending a timestamp to trigger the recorders substantially simultaneously. In an improved method of capturing data content by a plurality of recorders disclosed herein, an identifier is received in all the recorders electronically and associated to the recorded data content. The identifier is used in the synchronization of data content.
Abstract:
A device and a method for sharing resources in a network of peers are disclosed. A user may compile a wish list (420) of programs to be recorded on a recording device (400) that is a peer in the network. A resource list (421) is compiled of resources that the device shares within the network. The wish list and resource list are communicated to a coordinator (440) comprised within the network. The coordinator makes assignments of who records what and communicates an assignment list (422) to each peer. Each peer plans (405) and executes (407) the assigned recordings, which can be retrieved from a peer (410), or sent to the user device. Deletion control is applied to prevent the loss of recordings by deletion on a local peer. The coordinator may be comprised within a peer, as a standalone service within the network or implemented as a distributed algorithm between the peers.
Abstract:
Live transmission data, such as a live audio-visual program, is received and output, e.g. on as a television, step 205. If the user pauses the live transmission, the live data which continues to be received is stored in a memory, step 207. The audio visual features are extracted, step 209 and these are used to generate a summary, step 215 so that the user can view the summary to eliminate the time lag in returning to view the live program.
Abstract:
A method, a device and a system for providing a search result in response to a user request. The method includes the steps of entering one or more keywords to a search engine. The search engine may be an Internet search engine or a local search facility to search on a local hard disc. At least one information link is received in response to the search, e.g. a website homepage or a directory on a hard disc. The method includes scanning through documents arranged in connection with the information link in order to find documents that are relevant with respect to the user request. The documents arranged in connection with the information link may be scanned through using a width-before-depth or depth-before-width strategy or a combination thereof. A path is generated through the documents that are found relevant, and a video presentation based on this path through the documents is finally generated. Preferably, the video presentation includes a video part as well as an audio part. In preferred embodiments, selected parts of text documents are translated into a synthesized voice signal before included into the video presentation. As a result, a user can enjoy a video show of the search result in a lean-back mode, e.g. on a TV set, instead of clicking through all parts of an Internet website in order to find relevant documents. A device with user input means, network connecting means and processing means adapted to perform the mentioned method may be formed by a computer, a video recorder, a hard disc recorder, a video camera or a digital TV set.
Abstract:
Video data is distributed as base data to represent a source image stream and enhancement data to improve the base data . The base data and the enhancement data are distributed each in the same format, so that each can be used separately to generate an image, except that the base data is encrypted and the enhancement data is not encrypted. A receiver is able to switch between a normal mode, in which the base data and the enhancement data are combined and a teasing mode, wherein an image derived from the enhancement data only is shown if no key is available to decrypt the base data.
Abstract:
Multiple biometric samples (180) of an authorized user are associated with protected material (170), and access (250) to protected material (170) is based on a comparison of a sample (210) of a biometric to these multiple protection- samples (180) of the biometric. The likelihood of wrongly- denying access to the material is controlled by the criteria used in the comparison (240) of the access-sample to each protection- sample. The likelihood of wrongly- allowing access to the material is controlled by the criteria used to grant access (370) based on the multiple comparisons. To further control the likelihood of wrongly-allowing access to the material, multiple biometric samples (210) are collected during the access-granting period, and these multiple access-samples (210) are compared to the multiple protection-samples (180).
Abstract:
Multi-user playlist generation is provided. Users submit their playlists; a pie chart (3-1) is displayed (S3) representing the multi-user playlist generated from the plurality of playlists, such that m the pie chart each user playlist is represented as a piece of the pie (3- 11, 3-12); a first piece of the pie is selected as the user playlist from which a selection is next chosen by displaying (S5) a spinning effect with respect to the pie for a random or a pseudorandom period of time; and choosing (S7) the selection from the determined user playlist and playing the selection chosen. The selection may include a song, a piece of music, a picture, a video, a film, or a TV program. The user playlists may be provided by a user as a list of songs, a genre, an artist, or a user preference profile.
Abstract:
A system (100) makes a plurality of digital content titles ("network titles") available to a plurality of stations (170, 172, 174) through a network (160). The system includes a distribution controller (102) for obtaining for each network title a corresponding measure of an audience share during a broadcast of a corresponding title ("broadcast title"). The distribution controller (102) controls the availability of the network titles in dependence on the respective measures.
