Abstract:
Novel water soluble polymers in solution or water-in-oil emulsion form are disclosed containing quaternary ammonium monomers; and optionally (meth)acrylic acid or 2-(meth)acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid; methylene bis-acryamide and the like; and a C1-C3 alkyl (meth)acrylate acrylamide or methacrylamide and the use thereof in hair, skin and nail conditioning; papermaking; and subterranean well drilling and well cementing operations.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to high molecular weight water-soluble zwitterionic polymers derived from zwitterionic and nonionic monomer units, and to the use of the polymers in papermaking processes.
Abstract:
Fluorinated olefins and fluorinated vinyl ethers, each having sulfonyl azide groups, of formula CX1X2=CX-(O)p-R1-(CH2)n-S(O)qN3, where X, X1, X2 are independently H or F; p is 0 or 1; R1 is a C1-16 perfluoroalkyl group or perfluoroalkoxy group; n is 0-4; q is 1 or 2, are useful monomers in preparing fluoropolymers having functional side groups. Such functional side groups are useful in curing the fluoropolymers and also for enhancing the adhesion of the fluoropolymers to other substrates.
Abstract:
The invention provides novel cationic flocculant dispersion polymers that can be utilized in the methods disclosed herein. This invention also provides methods for detecting cationic flocculants wherein said flocculants may be made via a dispersion process, a latex process or a dry polymer process. The flocculants are used to flocculate solids from liquid components of an industrial food process. The detection method involves the use of monoclonal antibodies to determine the presence or concentration of the cationic flocculants in the liquids.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an aqueous resin emulsion obtainable by multistage emulsion polymerization of plural kinds of polymerizable unsaturated monomers in the presence of a surfactant, (a) a polymerizable unsaturated monomer being polymerized in a stage other than the final stage, while (b) a polymerizable unsaturated monomer being polymerized in the final stage, wherein the surfactant comprises a sulfate ester salt having an allyl group and a polyoxyethylene group, and the aqueous resin emulsion comprises a copolymer of the specific polymerizable unsaturated monomer (a) and a copolymer of the specific polymerizable unsaturated monomer (b).

Abstract:
Described herein are embodiments of compositions and methods relating to three- dimensional (3D) printing. Some embodiments are directed to a composition comprising a polymer with one or more dormant functional groups (e.g., a thiocarbonylthio group, an alkoxyamine group, a halogen, and/or a cobalt-carbon bond). According to some embodiments, the polymer may be formed through a controlled radical polymerization method (e.g., reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization). Some embodiments are directed to a composition comprising a polymer with one or more pendent crosslinkable groups (e.g., an allyl group, an acrylamide group, an acrylate group, a coumarin group, a pyrimidine base). In some cases, the composition may be used as an "ink" for 3D printing. For example, the composition may be injected into a medium (e.g., a yield stress material). The composition and/or medium may, in some embodiments, further comprise an initiator and/or a crosslinker. After injection of the composition into the medium, the one or more dormant functional groups and/or one or more pendent crosslinkable groups may be activated, and the polymer may be crosslinked. In certain cases, the crosslinked polymer may be removed from the medium to produce a freestanding three-dimensional structure.
