Abstract: A texture sprayer (10) has a cart (12) containing one adjustable flow peristaltic pumps (14), a motor (16)), a material supply hopper (18) and a flow control device (20). A double-ended motor shaft may be provided wherein one end drives the pump (14) and the other end drives an air compressor (22). A hose retention mechanism (26) on the pump (14), consists of a coupled hose (28), a hose retainer plate (30), a mounting plate (32) and a retainer screw (34). An adjustor (40), which is a variable force device for varying the amount of tension on the hose (28) closer or farther away from center of the rotor (42) by raising and lowering the mounting plate (32) relative to the cart (12), rotor (42) and rollers (44). In the pump (14), the distance over which the hose (28) is stretched is made or adjustable so that a variable rate of flow may be achieved.

Abstract: Devices and methods are directed to improving the gaseous exchange in a lung of an individual having, for instance, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. More particularly, conduits may be deployed in the lung to maintain collateral openings (or channels) surgically created through airway walls. This tends to facilitate both the exchange of oxygen ultimately into the blood and decompress hyper-inflated lungs. The conduit includes a radially expandable center section having a first end, a second end, and a passageway extending from the first end to the second end. A control segment may be associated with the conduit to limit the degree of radial expansion. The conduit further includes a plurality of deflectable members extending from the ends of the center section. A tissue barrier may coaxially surround the conduit such that tissue ingrowth is prevented. The conduits may also include hold-down members and bioactive coatings that serve to prevent ejection of the conduit as well as prevent narrowing of the passageway due to tissue ingrowth.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are devices for altering gaseous flow within a lung to improve the expiration cycle of an individual, particularly individuals having chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). More particularly, a medical catheter is disclosed to detect the presence of blood vessels and to produce collateral openings or channels through the airway wall so that air is able to pass directly out of the lung tissue to facilitate both the exchange of oxygen ultimately into the blood and/or to decompress hyper-inflated lungs.
