Abstract:
A recommendation system comprises a plurality of recommendation engines (101-107) which are coupled together by a data communication coupling (109). Each of the recommendation engines (101-107) comprises a user profile (203) for a first user, a prediction processor (201) for generating recommendations for the first user in response to the user profile and an interface (209) for exchanging recommendation event messages, such as a request for a recommendation and a reply thereto, with other recommendation engines on the data communication coupling. At least one of the user profile and prediction algorithm of at least some recommendation engines (101-107) are different. A recommendation processor (205) generates a recommendation in response to a received recommendation event message and a recommendation indication from the prediction means. The invention may provide improved recommendation by interworking of independent recommendation engines (101-107).
Abstract:
A plurality of personalisation servers (120) comprise a receiver (301, 303) for receiving application non-specific psychological profile data for a user from any remote device (103) out of a plurality of remote devices (103). A rule processor (307) provides a set of application specific rules relating psychological profile data values to user preferences for a user application where the application specific rules are associated with a first application. A preference processor (305) generates a user preference for the user in response to the psychological profile data and the application specific rules, and an application processor (309) adapts the operation of the first application in response to the user preference. A transmitter then transmits the application output data to the remote device (103). Each of the remote devices (103) comprises functionality for transmitting psychological profile data to any personalisation device (101) out of the personalisation devices (101).
Abstract:
Systems and methods for enhanced sports-related media content access and display are provided. An intelligent tuning module for multi-tuner systems may designate one sporting event as a primary sporting event and another sporting event as a secondary sporting event. A primary tuner may tune the primary event whenever possible and a secondary tuner may tune the secondary event whenever possible. Sporting events may be assigned user profile scores and tuned away from in reverse priority order. An interactive scoreboard may also be displayed with various game status and alert icons. The interactive scoreboard may allow a viewer to quickly tune between high-interest sporting events. Sports-specific features, such as wagering and fantasy league support, are also provided.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing media planners for planning a user's media content viewing activities are provided. The media planner may include an interactive grid of content with scheduled viewing, recording, or reminders set within a user-selectable time window. The media planner may prioritize content within the planner grid and automatically resolve conflicts when the number of available tuners within the user equipment device has been exceeded. Programs matching a user's viewing interests may also be automatically recorded in the user's absence. Coming-soon announcements may be received for programming outside the current program schedule window. Conditional media guidance application functions may be scheduled based on preliminary availability and attribute data associated with a coming-soon asset.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing previews, such as song and video previews, to a portable media player are provided. In general, a play history for the portable media player is generated as media files are played by the portable media player and provided to a central system hosting an e- commerce service providing media content. The play history is provided to a central system either indirectly through an associated user system or directly through a network. Based on the play history, the central system selects a number of previews for the portable media player. The previews are provided to the portable media player either indirectly through the associated user system or directly through the network. The previews may then be played on the portable media player and, if desired, selected for purchase.
Abstract:
A Social Media Platform and method are provided wherein contextual content, in real-time, is delivered to a user along with the original content from which the contextual content is derived.
Abstract:
A personalized entertainment and information platform (Sphere) which provides personalized content delivery across different platforms and modes of delivery. A personal media device (e.g., PC, television, and so forth) interacts with a control server configured for accessing media content and metadata over the Internet. In response to input from the user and the history of user media selection and viewing, a prioritized recommendation list is generated and queued for downloading. The associated content is then downloaded automatically to the personal media device, without the need of user interaction. At this time the user can access the downloaded content immediately without a lengthy delay in waiting for content downloading. It will be appreciated that content such as shows and movies in HD format are of significant size (e.g., up to 50GB) which would require significant download time, and tie up network and system resources.
Abstract:
A technique for controlling a download (110) of an electronic service guide (ESG) for media content distribution services to a user device (102) is proposed. First, a user behaviour related to the user device is monitored. Second, a ranking of fragments of the electronic service guide to be downloaded interactively onto the user device is determined, based on the monitoring. The download of one or more of the fragments to the user device is then initiated based on the ranking. This technique is particularly useful when a transmission capacity available for downloading fragments of the ESG is limited.
