The DOCSIS device may identify the customer premises device based on the predetermined frequency and the predetermined modulation by comparing the frequency measurement and the modulation measurement to a prestored frequency data and a prestored modulation data that correlates to a plurality of types of the customer premises device.

The processor can detect streams of media samples at the input ports and determine, in response to the detection of the streams of media samples, a capture start time. Maintaining synchronization of encryption processes at devices during transmission of encrypted data over a communication link is provided. Cipher link maintenance characters are sent from a source device to a sink device. A local cipher link maintenance character generated at the sink device for decrypting the encrypted data can be adjusted according to the cipher link maintenance character. After authentication, cipher link maintenance characters corresponding to units (e.g., frames) of the encrypted data are sent along with the units of the encrypted data. When a transmission error occurs during transmission of the encrypted data, cipher link maintenance characters can be used to correct the error in a local cipher link maintenance character generated at the sink device. Hence, even if the transmission error occurs in the communication link, the sink device can resolve the transmission error and maintain the synchronization of encryption processes at the source and sink devices.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media are described herein for aggregating viewing data for one or more types of media content. Image data depicting a viewing area of a display device are received. A type of media content being displayed on the display device when the images are captured is identified. Based on the image data, a number of persons may be determined, as well as characteristics about the persons, responses of the persons toward the media content, and levels of engagement of the persons in the media content, or a portion thereof. Each determined item of information may comprise a viewing record for the media content. The viewing records for the media content may then be aggregated to create viewing data for the content, and the viewing data may be distributed to a content provider.
