Abstract:
A novel thermoelectric material is described which comprises a matrix of In 2 O 3 with regions of In 2 Ge 2 O 7 dispersed therein. Methods are also described for forming such material. In one such method a particulate material which comprises a mixture of particulate In 2 O 3 and particulate GeO 2 is subjected the mixture to a comminution process, for example by ball milling. In another, a gel is formed and then destabilised to form a particulate material.

Abstract:
A method for laminating glass, glass-ceramic, or ceramic layers. The method comprises providing a first layer of glass, glass-ceramic, or ceramic, wherei.the glass, glass-ceramic, or ceramic of the first layer is electromagnetic radiation-sensitive or has an electromagnetic radiation susceptor disposed on it,- stacking a second layer of. glass, glass-ceramic, or ceramic on the first layer; and irradiating the stack with electromagnetic radiation to laminate the first and second layers. In the examples, microwaves are used as electromagnetic radiation.
Abstract:
Methods for preparing porous inorganic coatings (50) on porous supports (10) using certain pore formers such as protein, starch or synthetic polymer particles, and porous supports coated with porous inorganic coatings. The porous inorganic coatings may serve as membranes useful in, for example, liquid-liquid, liquid-particulate, gas-gas, or gas-particulate separation applications.
Abstract:
Photonic crystal fibers include a plurality of extruded non-circular canes, each of the extruded non-circular canes comprising at least one hole. Methods for manufacturing photonic crystal fibers include hot-forming a glass material into a glass tube having a non-circular outer cross-section, drawing the glass tube to obtain a plurality of canes, stacking the canes to create a preform build and drawing the preform build to obtain a photonic crystal fiber.
