Abstract: The invention provides a liquid fuel burner (110) comprising a burner head (114), a liquid fuel reservoir (116) for containing a liquid fuel, and a pump (118) for pumping the liquid fuel from the reservoir (116) to the burner head (114). The pump (118) includes a cylinder (140), and a piston (142) which is displaceable relative to the cylinder (140) so that liquid fuel is drawn into the cylinder (140) when the piston and cylinder are displaced in a first direction relative to one another, and the liquid fuel is pumped out of the cylinder (140) when the piston and cylinder are displaced in a second, opposite direction relative to one another. The pump (118) also includes an inlet valve (144) for allowing liquid fuel to be drawn into the cylinder (140) from the reservoir (116), an outlet valve (146) for allowing liquid fuel to be pumped out of the cylinder (140) to the burner head (114), and a displaceable mass which due to its weight applies sufficient force to cause displacement of the piston (142) relative to the cylinder (140) in the second direction, thereby to pump liquid fuel out of the cylinder (140) to the burner head (114).

Abstract: An improved tray ration heating system includes a reservoir. A heat exchanger transfers heat to the reservoir. A firebox at one end of the reservoir has an opening to receive a burner flame tube. The firebox delivers heated gases from the burner flame tube along the underside of the reservoir to an opposite end of the reservoir. A main channel along the reservoir includes baffles which produce a tortuous path and introduce turbulence to, the hot gases. First and second channels adjacent to the main channel redirect hot gases exiting the main channel, and third and fourth channels direct hot gases exiting the first and second channels towards the opposite end of the reservoir. An exhaust channel extends along a vertical wall of the reservoir to an exhaust opening. The exhaust channel has baffles for displacing hot gases across the vertical wall. An insulated outer liner supports the reservoir and heat exchanger.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for heating substances such as beverages, soups, chemicals, etc., with heat produced by circulating electrical eddy currents. A magnetic flux generating base (20) produces a varying magnetic field by using an electric motor (22) to move a plurality of permanent magnets (42). The varying magnetic field induces the eddy currents to circulate in a ferromagnetic conductor (132) that is sealed in the bottom of a container (30) resting on the magnetic flux generating base (20). Losses due to the eddy current produce heat that is transferred into the substance within the container (30). In another embodiment, the motor moves one or more magnetic flux shunts (214) to vary the magnetic field. Abstract: A cooking apparatus comprising a burner (2) and a cylindrical casing (10) which is arranged round the burner and extends upwardly therefrom. Abstract: A rugged, flatly folding, portable chafing dish assembly (10) is comprised of a cover (12), food pan (14), water pan (16), collapsible stand (18) and heat source (20). The collapsible stand (18) is rectangular and is comprised of four rigid plates forming the sides of the rectangular stand which are rotatably coupled together by means of a flatly folding piano hinge. The hinge is integrally formed with the sides and can be disassembled for cleaning. The two lateral sides (21) of the stands (18) are identical and interchangeable, as are the two end sides (22). The rectangular stand is provided with apertures (26, 28) through the lateral and end sides (22), both for air access to create a heat draft for the burner source when placed within the stand, as well as access to the burners (20) when the chafing dish assembly is assembled. A rigid rectangular tray (30) extends the length of the stand and connects to the end sides (22) along an access aperture (28) edge thereby rendering the otherwise collapsible rectangular stand rigid. Additional rigidity of the chafing dish assembly is realized when the water pan (16) and food pan (14) are disposed in the stand (18) in a nested fashion.
