Abstract: The invention provides an article (20) comprising a substrate (1) having a micro-structured surface that defines a plurality of channels (4) and a fluid that is separated from the substrate until activation of the article is desired, wherein the article is designed such that it can be activated at a desired point in time to allow contact of the fluid with at least one of the channels of the substrate, said article being adapted for providing a measurable variable electrical characteristic, said variability being in correspondence with the progress of the fluid as it migrates through the channels of the substrate.

Abstract: Coatings and articles containing the coatings that can be used as impact resistance thermal barriers in high temperature applications. The coatings comprise zirconium silicate and an inorganic binder comprising an alkali silicate or a sol. The coating may optionally comprise fibers. Articles containing the coatings can be made by mixing together the zirconium silicate, optionally the fibers, and either a solution of the alkali silicate or a sol to form a coating solution, applying the coating solution to at least the first major surface of a substrate, and hardening the coating solution by drying and curing the coating solution.

The tape applicator, which is instructed by a controller, can automatically follow a real-time-updated tape coverage path on the object surface to optimize the tape application while the tape applicator moves along the object surface. The tape applicator can also create tabs in real time.

Abstract: An intumescent article includes intumescent material including 50-92 wt-% 5 graphite and 8-50 wt-% binder, and may have a free expansion ratio of 100 x or greater and a free expansion aspect ratio of 1.0 or less. The intumescent article may be a sheet, and may be L-shaped, rectangle, triangle, or other shape. The intumescent article may have a 3D shape. The intumescent article may be an insert for an electrical box, having a surface area 75 % or less of the surface area of the electrical box back wall. The 10 intumescent sheet has a mass, and the ratio of the mass to the volume of the electrical box may be 3 g/100 cm3 or less. A method of making an intumescent article includes mixing from 50-92 wt-% graphite with 8-50 wt-% binder on a dry weight basis to form a mixture, pressing or molding the mixture into a shape and drying the shape.

Abstract: An absorbent web includes a web body defining a machine direction along a length of the web body. Abstract: Described herein is a composite comprising a fluorinated polymer and nanoparticles of lithium fluoride. The lithium fluoride has an average BET surface area of at least 10 m2/g. The fluorinated polymer includes a fluorinated polymer backbone chain and a plurality of groups represented by formula –SO2X, in which each X is independently -NZH, -NZSO2(CF2)1-6SO2X', -NZ[SO2(CF2)dSO2NZ]1-10SO2(CF2)dSO2X', or -OZ, and Z is independently a hydrogen, an alkali-metal cation, or a quaternary ammonium cation, X' is independently –NZH or –OZ, and each d is independently 1 to 6. A polymer electrolyte membrane, an electrode, and a membrane electrode assembly including the composite are also provided.
