Abstract:
Assay devices, assay detection systems, and methods comprising same for analytical tests, medical assays, diagnostic tests, medical diagnosis, risk assessment, or quality control purposes are provided. These devices, systems, and methods are designed to be employed at the point of care, such as in emergency rooms, operating rooms, hospital laboratories and other clinical laboratories, doctor's offices, in the field, or in any situation in which a rapid and accurate result is desired. The systems and methods process samples, such as clinical, biological, or blood sample, and read data from colorimetric based biochemical assays to provide an indication of the presence or absence of a bacterial, fungal, or viral contaminants therein. The assay devices include an optical reader apparatus and barcode scanner for reading and matching the test results to identification information provided by the barcodes to facilitate ease of tracking compliant and noncompliant samples.
Abstract:
Provided is a highly sensitive high throughput mass spectrometry-based quantitative assay for 4E/4E regulon pathway proteins has been developed which provides for single sample multiplexed analysis, as well as the analysis of protein phosphorylation states. It may be adapted for use as the first single sample analytical method of the 4E/4E regulon biological pathway.
Abstract:
Bioengineered constructs are formed from cultured cells induced to synthesize and secrete endogenously produced extracellular matrix components without the requirement of exogenous matrix components or network support or scaffold members. The bioengineered constructs of the invention can be produced with multiple cell types that can all contribute to producing the extracellular matrix. Additionally or alternatively, one of the multiple cell types can be delivered to a site in the body via the endogenously produced extracellular matrix components to achieve various therapeutic benefits.
Abstract:
The invention provides methods and compositions for inducing brown fat cell differentiation through modulation of both Prdmlβ and C/EBPβ activity and/or expression. Also provided are methods for preventing or treating obesity or an obesity related disorder in a subject through stimulation of both Prdmlβ and C/EBPβ expression and/or activity. Further provided are methods for identifying compounds that are capable of modulating both Prdmlβ and C/EBPβ expression and/or activity.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods and compositions related to electroprocessed drug delivery devices. An electroprocessed drug delivery device of the present invention can, for example, be made to comprise an electrospun scaffold (e.g. , comprising polydioxanone) incorporated with Monocyte Chemotactic Protein- 1 (MCP-I). The electroprocess drug delivery device can be used to influence macrophage infiltration and adherence, and to allow extended chemokine release.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for treating and preventing cell proliferative disorders and conditions comprising administering to a subject resveratrol or an analog thereof.
Abstract:
Processes and apparatus for treating organic and inorganic materials in a metal bath contained in a high temperature reactor to produce synthesis gas are provided. The feed materials are prepared and analyzed for heat value prior to injection and the composition of materials in and exiting the reactor are monitored. Based upon the results of the analysis and monitoring, oxygen, steam, and/or other feed materials are also injected into the reactor, to control processing and synthesis gas quality.
Abstract:
Provided herein are anti-angiogenic comprising the N-terminal end of endostatin, nucleic acids encoding the same, pharmaceutical preparations comprising an effective amount of the peptide and nucleic acids and use of the pharmaceuticals in treating or preventing diseases or conditions associated with undesirable angiogenesis.
