    Abstract: A method for realizing an online color ringback tone (CRBT) or multimedia ringback tone (MRBT) service includes that after transmitting the normal call request to a called party, a multimedia service equipment (MSE) sends a transfer request message to a service recipient and notifies the service recipient to initiate a call request to the MSE, wherein the service recipient is a calling party or the called party; after receiving the transfer request message, the service recipient initiates the call request to the MSE; during the process of establishing the session between the MSE and the service recipient through the call request, the CRBT or MRBT media resource information is negotiated; if the negotiation is successful, the MSE plays the CRBT or MRBT media information to the service recipient. The method is realized in the IMS system, and allows to play the multimedia information to the calling/called party at the same time during the normal call attempt, while solving the problem of prior art P-Early-Session technology when used by a service recipient device to support the gateway mode being unable to provide CRBT or MRBT service.
