Abstract: The invention provides a kit and method for the assembly of a stairlift guide rail, the kit comprising a plurality of sections of guide rail wherein the sections have predetermined standard dimensions. The kit preferably includes a plurality of sections of straight guide rail and a plurality of sections of curved guide rail. When fitted together according to the method of the invention, the plurality of sections of guide rail facilitate the construction of a stairlift guide rail assembly and a stairlift assembly, such that an operative is able to complete the full assembly on site. The stairlift assembly preferably also comprises load bearing means, typically in the form of seating means, chassis means and driving means. The kit and method of the invention offer significant advantages over the systems and methods of the prior art in terms of cost and time.

Abstract: A lift system comprises: a rail: a carriage assembly comprising a seat or platform for supporting a person to be conveyed along the rail;and drive means coupled to the carriage assembly and adapted to engage the rail and drive the carriage assembly along the rail. In one aspect the system comprises levelling means operable to adjust an orientation of the carriage assembly with respect to the rail, and the carriage assembly comprises: an accelerometer arranged to provide an output signal indicative of an inclination of the seat or platform with respect to a horizontal plane; and control means arranged to receive the output signal and control the levelling means to adjust the orientation to maintain the inclination of the seat or platform substantially at a predetermined value or within a predetermined range. In another aspect the system comprises control means arranged to control the drive means; slope indicating means; and curvature indicating means, and the control means is adapted to use signals indicative of slope or curvature to control a speed at which the drive means drives the carriage assembly along the rail according to position along the rail.

Abstract: The invention provides a stairlift device which comprises passenger carrying means, guide means and transporting means,wherein the stairlift additionally comprises means for the detection of vital health data of passengers and transmittal of said data to remote locations.
