A water separation system and method for treating multiphase hydrocarbon production streams is disclosed. The system may be employed to separate gas from the production stream, and then separate the liquid stream into its oil component and water component. A gas/liquid separator may be employed to separate a multiphase hydrocarbon production stream into a gas stream and a liquid stream. A liquid cyclone separator, positioned downstream from the gas/liquid separator, may be employed to divide the liquid stream into an oil dominated portion and a water dominated portion. The system may be used on land or on offshore platforms in locations where it is desirable to separate oil and water from hydrocarbon streams.

The protective device consists of a basic component with a base via which it is screwed to a housing wall of the fuel supply system and a cover (44) which encloses the functional component (25) on the basic component (34) in such a way that the cover has a side wall which is further positively surrounded by a side wall (36) of the basic component. Thus access to the functional component (25) and the securing system of the basic component (34) is prevented. The cover (44) is secured to the basic component by safeguarded fixing means (54).

In a magnetic valve serving to block a fuel inlet line (10) to supply a pump working chamber of a fuel injection pump with fuel, the closing component (28) has a drilling (50) penetrating from the front which can be closed off by a valve member (61) under the action of a closing spring (57). On the occurrence of pressure surges in the intake line section (31) closed off by the closing member (28) and leading to the pump working chamber, the closing member (28) and the entire cross-section of the intake line section (31) is not opened but only the cross-section of the drilling (50). This drilling is quickly closed again by the low-mass valve member (61) after the surge has passed so that only small quantities of fuel can flow via the drilling (50) to equalise the pressure.
