Abstract:
A method of recovering hydrocarbons includes forming a first electrode by creating a first hydraulic fracture within the subsurface formation and pumping a first electrically conductive material into the first hydraulic fracture; forming a second electrode by creating a second hydraulic fracture within the subsurface formation and pumping a second electrically conductive material into the second hydraulic fracture; electrically connecting a first power transmitting mechanism to the first electrode; electrically connecting a second power transmitting mechanism to the second electrode; and heating the subsurface formation between the first electrode and the second electrode by transmitting an electrical current via the first power transmitting mechanism to the first electrode and via the second power transmitting mechanism to the second electrode and by flowing the electrical current from the first electrode to the second electrode. The electrical current substantially includes a frequency between 60 Hertz and 500 Kilohertz.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a processor has multiple cores to execute threads. The processor further includes a power control logic to enable entry into a turbo mode based on a comparison between a threshold and value of a counter that stores a count of core power and performance combinations that identify turbo mode requests of at least one of the threads. In this way, turbo mode may be entered at a utilization level of the processor that provides for high power efficiency. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
An apparatus for acquiring and analyzing data relating to a physiological condition of a subject, the apparatus including: a sensor device for coupling to the subject, the sensor device for detecting, converting and transmitting digital signals corresponding to four analog signals, one of the four analog signals being an electrocardiograph signal and three of the four analog signals being ballistocardiograph signals, and a computer including a processor in communication with the sensor device, the computer for receiving the digital signals from the sensor device and analyzing the digital signals, the computer generating and outputting a report relating to the physiological condition of the subject.
Abstract:
Image processing apparatus in which output pixel values are generated with respect to pixels of an input image selected in accordance with an image feature direction in the input image comprises comparing means for comparing blocks of pixels of the input image, the blocks being disposed with respect to a pixel position under test so that a correlation between the blocks would indicate an image feature direction applicable to that pixel position; and validating means, operable in respect of an image feature direction detected by the comparing means in respect of the pixel position under test, for detecting whether that image feature direction may be used to interpolate an output pixel value at that pixel position, the validating means being arranged (i) to detect whether the detected image feature direction is similar to image feature directions applicable to n image regions, where n > 1, disposed with respect to the pixel position under test; and (ii) to validate the image feature direction for the pixel position under test for use to interpolate an output pixel value at that pixel position if the detected image feature direction is similar to image feature directions of at least a predetermined number m, where m
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are peptide cleavage products, generated during natural processing of epithelial sodium channel a- and ?-subunits and their use in inhibiting epithelial sodium channel activity. Also disclosed herein are polypeptide and polypeptide analog derivatives of those agents. These epithelial sodium channel-inhibitory agents may be formulated into a drug product for, without limitation, inhibition of epithelial sodium channel function in a patient's airway, useful in treating, among other diseases or conditions: hypertension, congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome, hypokalemia, cystic fibrosis, chronic pulmonary obstructive diseases, such as chronic bronchitis, asthma and bronchiectasis. A method of testing the activity of an epithelial sodium channel-inhibitory agent also is provided.
Abstract:
Methods and materials for modulating (e.g., increasing or decreasing) low light tolerance in plants are disclosed. For example, nucleic acids encoding polypeptides that confer plants with tolerance to low light are disclosed as well as methods for using such nucleic acids to transform plant cells. Also disclosed are plants having increased low light tolerance and plant products produced from plants having increased low light tolerance.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a series of novel compounds having the formula (I) wherein: X is NR 3 or O; n is 1 or 2; A is a bicyclic carbocycle and R1 and R2 are as described herein. The compounds are useful as DPP-IV inhibitors, such as for the treatment of diabetes.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of operating a computing system may involve identifying a plurality of state values, wherein each state value corresponds to a computing thread associated with a processor. An average value can be determined for the plurality of state values, wherein a determination may be made as to whether to grant a frequency boost request based at least in part on the average value.
Abstract:
In accordance with an example embodiment, there is disclosed herein an application launcher, referred to herein as a "Concierge Launcher," that enables a mobile device to access a wireless local area network (WLAN) and launch an application with one click. In an example embodiment, the WLAN advertises one or more services, for example a Concierge Service, along with the identity of the provider of the service and optionally a Uniform Resource Indicator (URI) for the application to use the service. The mobile device is configured to detect the advertisement and notify an end user of the availability of the service. If the end user selects the service, the provider of the service is validated, and an application, such as a web browser, on the mobile device configured to use the service is started.
