Abstract:
A push button technique can be implemented to establish multiple secure connections between hybrid devices and to automatically add a new access point to a communication network. After button associated with a first hybrid device and a second hybrid device are activated, the first hybrid device and the second hybrid device can establish one or more secure communication links with each other via some/all of their network interfaces. In some embodiments, the push button technique can be used to establish a secure communication link between a new access point that is to be added to the communication network and an existing access point that is already part of the communication network. The new access point can receive configuration parameters associated with the existing access point via the secure communication link and can configure itself in accordance with the received configuration parameters for integration into the communication network.
Abstract:
The invention is related to lossless compression of prefix- suffix-codes wherein a prefix comprises unary code, and to corresponding decompression. The method for lossless compressing prefix-suffix-codes (VLCl, VLC2, VLC3) comprises the steps of forming a first contiguous bit sequence (FBS) from the prefixes (PRFXl, PRFX2, PRFX3), and lossless compressing the first contiguous bit sequence (FBS) by removing redundancy related to the difference between the first value's frequency in the first contiguous bit sequence (FBS) and the second value's frequency in the first contiguous bit sequence (FBS). Bit values are unevenly distributed in the prefixes while distribution of bit values in the suffixes is more even. Therefore, better compression is achievable if the prefixes are compressed separately.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for coding a block of N image data with N a positive integer comprising the step of: - transforming (S2) the block of N image data into a block of N transformed data; - quantizing (S4) the block of N transformed data into a block of N quantized data; - sampling (S6) the block of N quantized data into q sets of M sampled data according to q predefined non-overlapping sampling patterns with M and q integers and M*q=N; and - coding (S8) each set of M sampled data and, for each set, a data representative of the corresponding predefined sampling pattern into a stream of binary data.

Abstract:
A method and means of cranial bone flap fixation that provides, among other things, the re-opening, resetting and/or repositioning of the bone flap during neurosurgical procedures. The instrumentation central to this method and means is MR and CT- visible to aid in imaging-based localization of it. The method and means can also be used in other types of medical procedures where certain kinds of hard or firm tissue fixation is desirable according to the method of the invention.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a salience estimation method for object-based visual attention model. The method comprises steps of segmenting the image into a plurality of objects to be estimated, extracting feature maps for each segmented object, calculating the saliences of each segmented object in a set of circles defined around a centre pixel of the object based on the extracted feature maps, and integrating the saliences of each segmented object in all circles in order to achieve an overall salience estimation for each segmented object. The present invention is much more human vision inosculated and of low computing complexity.
Abstract:
A common mode in video encoding skips the encoding and transmission of macroblocks that can be fully predicted. It requires however complex calculations to determine such blocks. A fast algorithm is disclosed that speeds up the process of skip mode decision by reducing the computations for transform, thus using a simplified transform (T simp ), and reducing computations for quantization (Q low ). The disclosed method for detecting Skip mode checks only few low frequency coefficients, without performing a full transform, and offsets for Luma and Chroma part are adaptively chosen to modify quantization parameters in detecting Skip mode, which can achieve a good trade-off in keeping both subjective and objective quality.
Abstract:
Circular nucleic acid vectors that provide for persistently high levels of protein expression are provided. The circular vectors of the subject invention are characterized by being devoid of expression-silencing bacterial sequences, where in many embodiments the subject vectors include a unidirectional site-specific recombination product hybrid sequence in addition to an expression cassette. Also provided are methods of using the subject vectors for introduction of a nucleic acid, e.g., an expression cassette, into a target cell, as well as preparations for use in practicing such methods. The subject methods and compositions find use in a variety of different applications, including both research and therapeutic applications. Also provided is a highly efficient and readily scalable method for producing the vectors employed in the subject methods, as well as reagents and kits/systems for practicing the same.
Abstract:
A method, technique and system is disclosed for the delivery of therapeutic agents and/or into the bulk brain tissues and other parts, tissues and organs of the body, including vasculature. A novel form of coaxial catheter provides a means for implanting an outer tube into the brain, then inserting an inner tube into the outer tube and aligning them such that port holes on both of the tubes will overlap and permit a flute of the therapeutic agent to flow into the brain in such a way as to minimize the effects of trapped air, virtually eliminate backflow of the agent, and avoid the potential for additional damage to the brain since only one surgical placement of the outer tube is needed. Similarly, the method, technique system may be utilized to remove fluids or other medium from the brain, tissues, and organs to minimize the effects of escaped air or negative pressure.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to blocking the activity of IL-20 polypeptide molecules. IL-20 is a cytokine that is involved in inflammatory processes and human disease. IL-20RA/IL-20RB is a common receptor for IL-20. The present invention includes anti-IL-20 antibodies and binding partners, as well as methods for antagonizing IL-20 using such antibodies and binding partners.
