Abstract:
A retractable fall arrest device comprises a unit housing, a spring sub-assembly, a brake/clutch sub-assembly, and a drum assembly. The spring and brake/clutch sub-assemblies each include shaft portions which extend into the housing and are removably connected together or to the drum assembly, and support the drum assembly in the housing. The spring and brake/clutch assembly are themselves removably connected to the unit housing. Finally, the unit housing comprises two wall members (i.e., clam shells) which are removably connected together. This fall arrest device allows for replacement of any of the four constituent components of the device in the field, thus reducing the down time between repairs or recertification of a particular fall arrest device.
Abstract:
An anchorage device (200) that includes a receiver (202) having a body (204) having an aperture (206) along an axis (208), the aperture (206) having a first section (216) of a first size (210) and a second section (212) of a second size (214), the second size being smaller than the first size, the first section (216) having a first retaining recess (216), and the second section (212) having a second retaining recess (218). The receiver cooperates with a male connector (220) adapted for insertion into the aperture (206) of the receiver, the male connector (220) includes a set of parallel retractable retaining mechanisms (232, 234) located along the male connector (220). The system provides for engagement of at least two of the retractable mechanisms against the receiver (202).
Abstract:
A confined space entry device has modularized components which allow the device to be readily reconfigured. In particular, the extension arm (22) of the device is removably secured to one leg of an elbow (18), while a post or mast (14) is removably secured to the other end of the elbow. The other end of the mast is removably secured to a base which supports the confined space entry device. In one version of the invention, the device includes tubular members made of a polymer composite material. In another version of the invention, the elbow is asymmetric about a central axis and is formed of cast aluminum. The device can include sets of different-length elongated members which can be interchanged with elongated members secured within the device.
Abstract:
A method for creating a horizontal lifeline between a pair of end anchorages. The method includes providing a section of line (2) having a modulus of elasticity, providing an energy absorbing shock absorber (6) having a deployment load, connecting the section of line and the shock absorber to one another, between the end anchorages (8), and tuning the section of line by tensioning the section of line to a load that is approximately equal to the deployment load.
