    Abstract: A device for testing fuel injectors in situ. The device comprises a detector (10) having a piezo-electric crystal (50) which converts mechanical impulses caused by the fuel injector valve needle snapping back onto its seat into electrical signals. The signals are fed to electronic processing means (15) which detects the signal amplitude and displays it on an LED bar graph display (20) as an indication of the operating efficiency of the fuel injector. A timing system using the detector (10) as a generator of timing signals is als disclosed.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for visually monitoring and testing in situ the operation of an engine ignition system. A gas discharge device (12), typically a neon trigger tube, glow lamp or gas diode, is provided in the electrical circuit connecting each spark plug to its high voltage source so that the gas discharge device is triggered by firing of the spark plug. Defects in the ignition system, such as faulty ignition coil, high voltage leads, or spark plugs, can be visually detected from the failure of the discharge devices to flash, or a degradation in the illumination of the discharge devices. Each gas discharge device (12) can be incorporated into a connector unit (10) between the distributor (20) and a respective high voltage lead (30).

    Abstract: A public telephone arrangement (1) is disclosed which incorporates a public telephone terminal (2) accessible via a vandal resistant wall (4), and a portable telephone handset (3) carried by a user thereof who has access only to a subscriber side (5) of the wall (4). The handset (3) includes a cable (9) upon which is configured a coupling device (8) which permits communication of telephone signals through a location (10) in the wall (4) to a complementary coupling device (11) that connects to a public telephone network via a line (7).     Abstract: A monitor device (1) for providing visual indication of the correct operation of one or more operational parameters of a solenoid operated fuel injector unit. Visual indication is provided by light emitting diodes (3, 4) or equivalent mounted on an exterior surface of the monitor device (1). Operational parameters sensed include voltage pulse across the injector unit, current pulse through the injector unit and change in the magnetic circuit of the injector unit during solenoid actuation. The monitor device is suited for providing quick and convenient visual indication of the operational status of one or more fuel injector units either on a test bed or in situ on a vehicle engine.
