Abstract:
Described herein is a multi-phase polymer binder including an aqueous polymer dispersion, an optional hydrophobic emulsion, and an optional surfactant. The polymer binder, when dried, provides a water uptake of less than about 5 g/m 2 /20 min, a seal strength of at least about 200 Newton/meter (N/m) as measured at 25 °C or at 90 °C, and sufficient block resistance to impart no substrate damage.
Abstract:
Methods for forming high molecular weight chain-extended condensation polymers are disclosed. The methods include adding a chain extender during the polymerization process of a condensation polymer to provide a chain-extended condensation polymer, wherein the chain extender comprises a polymerization product of at least one epoxy-functional (meth)acrylic monomer, and at least one styrenic and/or (meth)acrylic monomer.

Abstract:
Styrene-acrylic dispersants for use in pigment dispersions have lower viscosities than benchmark formulations such as nitrocellulose, dimer-acid based polyamides, and thermoplastic polyurethanes, prepared under otherwise identical conditions. Lower viscosities allow for the preparation of similarly viscous dispersions and inks with the styrene-acrylics when compared to traditional dispersants, at either (a) lower solvent levels, or if solvent levels are to be maintained, (b) higher pigment and solids loadings.

Abstract:
Polymers having dual functionalities, where one functionality imparts the polymer with the ability to crosslink with a crosslinking agent and the other functionality imparts at least one beneficial property to the polymer. In one embodiment, the two functionalities are epoxy and hydroxy-functionalities.

Abstract:
Oligomer-modified anionically polymerized polymers, reinforced materials made with polymers and articles made from reinforced materials are provided. The oligomer-modified polymers are made by reacting anionically polymerized polymers with low molecular weight acrylic oligomers. The oligomer-modified polymers may be used as adhesives, compatibilizers, reinforcing agents and impact modifiers.
