Abstract:
A pultruded composite profile (10) adapted to function as such as a structural element to carry load comprises a thermoset material (12). This thermoset material (12) is at least partially reinforced by means of one or more metal cords (14).
Abstract:
A braided structure (10) comprises at least two groups of elongated elements (12, 14) which have been braided with each other to form the braided structure. At least one of the groups comprise steel wires or steel cords (12, 14). The structure (10) comprises a longitudinal axis (11) and has a total length over its longitudinal axis (11). The structure has one of these two groups revolving in a first direction around the longitudinal axis (11). A first subgroup of individual elongated elements (12) belonging to one of the groups is spaced from a neighboring second subgroup of individual elements (12') belonging to the same of the groups with an inter-distance (13) that is greater than half the average element diameter of the individual elongated elements at a braiding angle β of 45 degrees. This inter-distance 13 allows change of cross-sectional geometry of the braided structure (10).
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing an impact absorbing device has following steps: a) providing a matrix volume (101); b) providing a tape-like device (107) with elongated metal elements; c) press-molding the matrix volume (101); d) attaching said tape-like device (107) to the press-molded matrix volume (101). This two-step approach allows more freedom in the design of the impact absorbing device and complex structures can be obtained.
Abstract:
A machine for cutting by electro-erosion has a wire electrode comprising a numerical control for controlling an electric pulse generator and a table for cross-movements as well as other machining parameters, and a device comprising: a detector arranged to measure, in the interelectrode region, the voltage and current for each pulse, and other characteristics which govern its profile as a function of time; an analyser arranged for continuously recording these characteristics for a pulse train of predetermined duration and for deducing certain results therefrom; a processor which activates and controls the analyser, equipped with software for calculating, from these results, the value assumed by an indicator of prevention of breakage of the wire electrode, comparing it with a predetermined limit value, and emitting a signal immediately this indicator reaches or exceeds this limit; an interface which transmits this signal to the numerical control of the EDM machine, and suitable means actuated by this numerical control and which modify at least one machining parameter in response to this signal.
Abstract:
A cold drawn carbon steel filament has a surface with traces of bismuth. The steel filament can be used as a sawing wire or as part of a steel cord. During its manufacturing the steel filament has been subjected to a controlled cooling by bringing the steel filament in contact with bismuth. Bismuth may replace lead without harming the environment.
