Abstract:
This invention relates to a substantially vertically arranged aquaculture or hydroponics apparatus (10) for rearing animals, plants or other organisms; or remediation apparatus for separating contaminating constituents from polluted liquids such as sewerage water. The apparatus (10) includes a rack (12) and a plurality of trays (40) stackable on the rack (12), wherein each of the trays (40) have opposing pivotal and displaceable tray ends (44). The trays (40) are angularly displaceable relative to the rack (12) between non-flow and flow inclinations by displacement means (30) acting on the displaceable tray ends thereby to operatively cause liquid to spill over a spill-over tray end of the trays (40) in the flow inclination.
Abstract:
Medical device assemblies having a connection mechanism for securely connecting a hub to fluid storage containers in a luer slip relationship are described. An exemplary medical device includes a hub forming a cavity, a second indicating element disposed within the cavity that engages the hub. Additional features of the medical device include a second indicating element contoured to form a line contact with the hub. In a specific configuration, the hub includes a first indicating element attached to the hub and extending proximally into the cavity having a protrusion. In a more specific configuration, the medical device includes a fluid storage container that has an indication system for visually indicating optimal fluid-tight engagement of the hub and the fluid storage container.
Abstract:
A flexible malleable shaft is made up of a plurality of prismatic shaft elements adjacent one another. A recess is formed in a proximal end of each shaft element, the recess defined along a transverse axis. A protrusion is formed in a distal end of each shaft element, the protrusion defined along a transverse axis. The transverse axes are oriented to one another such that adjacent like shaft elements are aligned with one another when a protrusion of one shaft element is aligned with a recess in an adjacent shaft element. A tension element secured to a distal end of the malleable shaft is in communication with a proximal end of the malleable shaft via an axial through hole. Additionally, a variable stiffness malleable shaft can accommodate the differential lengths of tension elements when applying force to transition the shaft.
Abstract:
A behaviour modification program, compliance monitoring and feedback system includes a server-based relational database and one or more microprocessors electronically coupled to the server. The system enables development of a behavior modification program having a series of milestones for an individual to achieve lifestyle changes necessary to maintain his or her health or recover from ailments or medical procedures. The program may be modified by a physician or case advisor prior to or during implementation. The system monitors the individual's compliance with the program by prompting the individual to enter health-related data, correlating the individual's entered data with the milestones in the behavior modification program and generating compliance data indicative of the individual's progress toward achievement of the program milestones. The system also includes a personal portal integrated with the behavior modification program for encouraging use of the system on a regular basis. The personal portal provides customizable and personalized access to Internet sites and other sources of information which suit the individual interests of the user. The personal portal further provides access to tools and educational materials germane to the user's personalized behavior modification program. Through the interfaces, the individual and case manager can access the database to review the compliance data and obtain health information from a remote source such as selected sites on the Internet. The system also provides an electronic calendar integrated with the behavior modification program for signaling the individual to take action pursuant to the behavior modification program in which the calendar accesses the relational database and integrates requirements of the program with the individual's daily schedule, and an electronic journal for enabling the individual to enter personal health-related information into the system on a regular basis. In addition, the system includes an electronic meeting room for linking the individual to a plurality of other individuals having related behavior modification programs for facilitating group peer support sessions for compliance with the program. The system enables motivational media presentations to be made to the individuals in the electronic meeting room as part of the group support session to facilitate interactive group discussion about the presentations.
Abstract:
A device comprising a non-liquid medium which can be arranged to contact and adhere to a patient's skin. The medium comprises a co-polymer of an acrylic moiety and a polyether, together with a hygroscopic electrolyte capable of conducting electrical signals from the patient's skin. The copolymer can be produced by blending together the polyether, acrylic moiety and electrolytic followed by irradiating the blend to initiate copolymerisation of the polyether and acrylic moiety.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a primarily reflective-based head mounted display device, for displaying and viewing visual content from a visual display source, including a frame, at least one optics housing connected to said frame, wherein the optics housing and frame are configured such that the optics housing may be positioned at least partially in front of an eye of a user, and wherein the optics housing includes a light-emitting visual source disposed within the optics housing for projecting visual content, and a plurality of reflective optical surfaces in optical communication with the light-emitting visual source that are configured to reflect a projection of the visual content into the eye of the user.
Abstract:
Devices and methods for making anastomoses between hollow structures are disclosed. Certain of the devices employ expandable structures to allow insertion of the devices in a first, unexpanded position, and subsequent expansion of the devices to help form an anastomosis. A variety of different structures for such expandable devices, different expanders and different actuators are disclosed. Also disclosed are a variety of different methods for making an anastomosis between hollow structures, which involve expansion of an expandable structure. The devices and methods provide for a number of different type of anastomoses, as well as addressing several of the problems that are typically encountered when making anastomoses between hollow structures.
Abstract:
A therapeutic behavior modification program, compliance monitoring and feedback system includes a server based relational database, and one or more microprocessors electronically coupled to the server. The system enables development of a therapeutic behavior modification program having a series of milestones for an individual to achieve lifestyle changes necessary to maintain his or her health of recovering from ailments of medical procedures. The program may be modified (1012) by a physician or trained case advisor prior to implementation. The system monitors the individual's compliance (1050) with the program by prompting the individual to enter health-elated data (1030), correlating the individual's entered data with the milestones in the behavior modification program, and generating compliance data indicative of the individual's progress toward achievement of the program milestones. The entire system is designed around a community of support motif including a graphical electronic navigator operable by the individual to control the microprocessor for accessing different parts of the system.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method of cleaning electronic components using a water-miscible solvent system. In the method, the components are washed with a water-miscible solvent system, rinsed with water and the used solvent and water entraining the impurities are combined and passed through an absorptive medium which retains all the suspended impurities but does not absorb the solvent or water. The cleaned aqueous solvent can be recovered and concentrated by evaporating off the water to leave behing a concentrated solvent solution. Use of this method minimises emission of undesirable inorganic, organic and/or particulate materials into the environment.
