Abstract: The invention relates to a method for sterilising functionalised coated surfaces containing nucleotides and/or nucleotide derivatives, according to which a) the surface is coated in a functionalising manner with nucleotides and/or nucleotide derivatives such that there is an surplus thereof, wherein the surplus nucleotides and/or nucleotide derivatives as sacrificial strands are not washed out of the coating, b) the atmosphere above the coated surface is enriched with ethanol, and c) the coated surface is irradiated with ionising radiation.
