Abstract:
The present invention relates to labelling machines that apply self-adhesive labels to objects, particularly containers. In particular, the present invention relates to a labelling unit (1) of the type for applying self- adhesive labels (4) to objects (3) carried in rotation by a carrousel (2), the said labels (4) being adhered onto a backing to form a labels film (5), the said labelling unit (1) comprising a feeding roll (7) that moves the labels film (5) from a dispensing reel (6) along a path defined by a plurality of tensioning rollers (8), that are mounted neutral, and a fixed wedge means (9) around which the labels film (5) is forced to pass and wherein the said labels (4) are detached from the said backing, characterised in that the said labelling unit (1) comprises a vacuum drum (10) adjacent to the said wedge means (9), wherein the said vacuum drum (10) receives the labels (4) detaching from the labels film (5) and distances them to the same pitch of the objects (3) on the carrousel (2).

There is described a vacuum drum (7) adapted to transfer at least one label (2a, 2b) along a given path (P) around a rotation axis (A), comprising: a main body (9) delimited by an outer lateral surface (11) which is adapted to receive label (2a, 2b) to be transferred; and a plurality of air ports (10a, 10b) defined by surface (11) and connectable to a vacuum source (22); vacuum drum (7) also comprises control means (30) configured for selectively connecting, on the basis of a selected format of the label (2a, 2b) to be transferred along path (P), a given number of air ports (10a) to vacuum source (22), when air ports (10a) of the given number are arranged between an inlet and an outlet station (3, 4) of path (P), so as to transfer said label (2a, 2b) along path (P).

There is described an apparatus (1) for supporting and unwinding a reel (2) of web material for a web processing machine; the apparatus (1) comprises a supporting portion (3), on which the reel (2) is adapted to rest, an engagement portion (6), projecting upwards from the supporting portion (3) along a vertical axis (A) and adapted to engage a reel central through hole (7), and actuator means (8) arranged on the opposite side of the supporting portion (3) with respect to the engagement portion (6) and which can be activated to rotate the supporting portion (3) and the engagement portion (6) about the mentioned axis (A); the supporting portion (3), and the engagement portion (6) are distinct components connected to one another by releasable fastening means (18).

A method of operating a labelling machine (1) for dispensing pressure-sensitive labels (2) from a backing web (3) fed towards an affixing station (6), wherein labels (2) are sequentially peeled off the web (3) and applied to articles (4) arriving at the affixing station (6),and wherein the advancement of labels (2) is adjusted by: -in a first portion of a label application cycle, gradually increasing the label velocity to a cycle maximum velocity and then gradually decreasing the label velocity to a not null reference velocity; and -in a second portion of said label application cycle, immediately subsequent to the second portion of the application cycle, gradually decreasing the label velocity from said not null reference velocity to a not null cycle minimum velocity, and then gradually increasing the label velocity back to said reference velocity, the leading edge of the label covering a label length over an overall advancement time given by the sum of the duration of said first and second portions of label application cycle, in a manner such that the sequential dispensing of every label (2) to be applied is timed with the sequential arrival the corresponding article (4) to be labelled at the affixing portion (6).

There is disclosed a labelling machine (1) for applying at least one first label (2) on at least one first item (3), comprising: a conveyor (6) which may be fed with the first item (3) to be labelled, is mobile to transfer the first item (3) along a labelling path (P), and is adapted to output the labelled first item (3); at least one first forming spindle (22) which may be fed with one first label (2) and can rotate about an axis (D) to determine the winding of the first label (2) on the first spindle (22); and at least one first sealing element (26) actuatable to weld opposite edges (48; 49) of the first label (2) wound on said first spindle (22) so as to form a first tubular element (4); the first spindle (22) and the first sealing element (26) are integrally mobile along: a first forward run, along which the first spindle (22) receives, in use, the first label (2); and a first return run, along which the first tubular element (4) is made available to the first item (3) moving forward on the conveyor (6).
