Abstract:
A diamond-covered member comprising a laminate of a base material, an acicular diamond layer, an intermediate layer comprising either a metal selected from the group consisting of groups IIIb, IVa, Va and VIa metals of the periodic table or a compound containing the metal and silicon or boron, and a non-acicular diamond layer having a remarkably improved adhesion. This member is produced by forming a diamond layer on the surface of the base material by the vapor-phase method, bringing a gas formed by exciting an oxygen-containing etching gas into contact with the diamond layer to make the diamond acicular, forming an intermediate layer comprising the aforementioned metal and the aforementioned compound on the acicular diamond thus obtained, and bringing a gas formed by exciting a gaseous material containing a carbon source gas into contact with the intermediate layer. The diamond-covered member is useful as a cutting tool or abrasion-resistant member.

A device for generating mirowave plasma which emits microwaves to an electric discharge space in order to stably generate plasma covering a wide range at a fixed position for a long time, characterized by being provided with a plurality of microwave emitting means to continuously emit microwave pulses at different timings in emitting microwave pulses; and a method of making diamond film characterized by synthesizing diamond thin film utilizing said microwave plasma generating device for efficiently forming diamond thin film uniform in thickness on a wide-area substrate; thereby capable of providing a useful microwave generating device and diamond thin film.

A medicine which contains a human growth hormone (hGH), has the effects of inhibiting or relieving the lowering of immune functions and the onset of infectious diseases, such as pneumonia, occurring in conducting hypothermia which is recognized to exhibit remarkable effects in the lifesaving and/or the recovery of patients with serious cerebral injury, and is useful for widening the field of application of hypothermia and ameliorating the effect of lifesaving.
