Abstract:
The invention relates to a bonded foam, comprising foam particles of at least one reticulated polyurethane foam which has an average cell size of at least 2 mm, and to a method for producing this foam. Without having to use a water repellent additive, the foam has a water uptake, determined at 25°C in accordance with the French standard UEAtc H.1 MOD1, of maximum 250 g/m², and has furthermore a very good drying capacity, so that it is well suited for floor underlay applications. These advantages properties can be achieved at densities lower than 120 kg/m 3 whilst still retaining the required mechanical properties.

Abstract:
An elastic vehicle tyre with a cavity (11) enclosed by a tread strip (2) supporting the tread (3) and sidewalls (4, 4.1) adjacent to this on both sides shows a foam insert (9) connected to the inside (10) of the tread strip (2). The side walls each carry a bead (5, 5.1) disposed at the free end to fit around the flange (8, 8.1) of the rim (6) of wheel (7). The foam insert (9) partly fills the cavity (11) and serves a dampening function, in particular in a frequency range below 400 Hz.
Abstract:
In the method for producing the moulded bonded foam article a binder is applied onto the foam particles, the obtained mixture is introduced in a mould (14) while generating a flow of gas through the mould cavity (10) to compress the mixture, the inlet opening (13) is closed, and the binder is allowed to set. In order to enable a better control of the density distribution in the mould cavity (10), the flow of gas is controlled to reach for a predetermined period of time a minimum flow rate, expressed in normal m 3 of gas per minute, of at least 500 times the inner volume V, expressed in m 3 , of the mould cavity, and/or a mould (14) with a larger inlet opening (13) is used, more particularly an open mould, the inlet opening of which has a surface area which is at least equal to 30% of the maximum cross-sectional surface area of the mould cavity measured in a plane parallel to the inlet opening, and/or the mixture is introduced in a stream having a surface area smaller than the surface area of the inlet opening.
