Abstract:
A cement composition comprising water, a cement, and a fluid loss control additive, the fluid loss control additive comprising a graft copolymer. The graft copolymer comprises a backbone and at least four grafted monomers selected from the group consisting of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid, acrylamide, acrylic acid, vinylphosphonic acid, diallyldimethylammonium chloride, and salts thereof. The backbone of the graft copolymer comprises a humic acid salt. The cement compositions may be used in cementing operations.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to stable and biodegradable foamed cement slurries, additives and methods. A foamed cement slurry of the invention comprises a hydraulic cement, sufficient water to form a slurry, sufficient gas to form a foam and a biodegradable foaming and stabilizing additive comprising a mixture of a capryl/capramido propyl betaine surfactant and a capryl/capramido propyl dimethyl amine oxide surfactant.
Abstract:
Methods, cement compositions and oil suspensions of powders are provided. The oil suspensions of silica powder comprise silica powder, mineral oil, an oleophilic clay, an oleophilic surfactant and a hydrophilic surfactant.
Abstract:
Methods of cementing subterranean zones penetrated by well bores using cement compositions having enhanced compressive strengths are provided. A method of the invention basically comprises the steps of preparing or providing a cement composition having enhanced compressive strength upon setting comprising a hydraulic cement, sufficient water to form a slurry and a hydroxyamine compressive strength enhancing additive. Thereafter, the cement composition is placed in a subterranean zone to be cemented and allowed to set into an impermeable solid mass therein.
Abstract:
Methods of cementing in subterranean zones, improved cement compositions and improved additives are provided. The compositions are basically comprised of a hydraulic cement, sufficient water to form a slurry and an additive for providing improved rheology, fluid loss control and set retardation comprised of carboxymethylhydroxyethylcellulose having in the range of from about 0.62 to about 2.21 moles of hydroxyethyl substitution and in the range of from about 0.44 to about 0.52 degrees of carboxymethyl substitution and a 2% by weight aqueous solution of the carboxymethylhydroxyethylcellulose has a Hoppler viscosity in the range of from about 55 mPa.s to about 359 mPa.s.

Abstract:
Settable drilling fluids that comprise an aqueous-based drilling fluid and cement kiln dust. Methods of cementing in a subterranean formation that comprise providing a settable drilling fluid comprising an aqueous-based drilling fluid and cement kiln dust, introducing the settable drilling fluid into a subterranean formation, and allowing the settable drilling fluid to set in the subterranean formation. Methods of converting an aqueous-based drilling fluid to a settable drilling fluid that comprise providing the aqueous-based drilling fluid, and adding cement kiln dust to the aqueous-based drilling fluid to form the settable drilling fluid. Methods of drilling a well bore and cementing a well bore that comprise drilling a well bore, circulating an aqueous-based drilling fluid in the well bore during the step of drilling the well bore, adding cement kiln dust to the aqueous-based drilling fluid to form a settable drilling fluid, and allowing the settable drilling fluid to set in the well bore.
Abstract:
The present invention provides cement compositions that comprise water, high alumina cement, a soluble phosphate, and cement kiln dust. The cement compositions optionally may be foamed with a gas. Methods of cementing also are provided that comprise: providing the cement composition; introducing the cement composition into a location to be cemented; and allowing the cement composition to set therein. The location to be cemented may be above ground or in a subterranean formation.
