Abstract:
In some embodiments, a device displays content on a touch screen display and detects input by finger gestures. In response to the finger gestures, the device selects content, visually distinguishes the selected content, and/or updates the selected content based on detected input. In some embodiments, the device displays a command display area that includes one or more command icons; detects activation of a command icon in the command display area; and, in response to detecting activation of the command icon in the command display area, performs a corresponding action with respect to the selected content. Exemplary actions include cutting, copying, and pasting content.
Abstract:
A portable electronic device (100) having a touch screen display (112) detects a first finger-down event at a first position (5805) on the touch screen display (112). The first position. (5805) is adjacent to first and second user interface objects (5806, 5802). The portable device (100) detects a second finger event at a second position (5808,5812,5809,5817,5807) on the touch screen display (112). The second finger event is either a finger-dragging event or a finger-up event. The portable device (100) determines a type of the second finger event and a distance between the first position (5805) and the second position (5808,5812,5809,5817,5807). The portable device (100) performs a first action associated with the first user interface object (5806) if the distance is greater than a predefined threshold and performs a second action associated with the second user interface object (5802) if the distance is equal to or less than the predefined threshold and the second finger event is a finger-up event.
Abstract:
A method includes displaying one or more views of a view hierarchy, and executing software elements associated with a particular view. Each particular view includes event recognizers. Each event recognizer has one or more event definitions, and an event handler that specifies an action for a target and is configured to send the action to the target in response to event recognition. The method includes detecting a sequence of sub-events, and identifying one of the views of the view hierarchy as a hit view that establishes which views are actively involved views. The method includes delivering a respective sub-event to event recognizers for each actively involved view. A respective event recognizer has event definitions, and one of the event definitions is selected based on the internal state. The respective event recognizer processes the respective sub-event prior to processing a next sub-event in the sequence of sub-events.
Abstract:
A method of operating a multifunction device includes displaying a soft keyboard having a plurality of unconditionally enabled buttons and one or more conditionally enabled buttons, detecting a first input with a first button at a first time, and responding to detecting the first input by activating the first button. In response to detecting a second input with a second button at a second time, when the first button is an unconditionally enabled button and the second button is an unconditionally enabled button, the second button is activated. When the second button is a conditionally enabled button, and when the period of time between the first and second times is above a predefined threshold, the second button is activated; and when the period of time between the first and second times is equal to or below the predefined threshold, the second button is prevented from being activated.
Abstract:
A portable multifunction device displays a first icon and a second icon on its touch screen display. In response to a sequence of finger movements across the first and second icons, wherein the finger stays in contact with the touch screen display during the movements, the portable device highlights the first icon for at least a predefined time period if a parameter associated with the finger's position relative to the touch screen display meets a first predefined condition and then highlights the second icon for at least the predefined time period if the parameter associated with the finger's position relative to the touch screen display meets a second predefined condition.
Abstract:
In accordance with some embodiments, a computer-implemented method is performed at a portable electronic device with a touch screen display. The method includes: displaying graphics and an insertion marker at a first location in the graphics on the touch screen display; detecting a finger contact with the touch screen display; and in response to the detected finger contact, expanding the insertion marker from a first size to a second size on the touch screen display and expanding a portion of the graphics on the touch screen display from an original size to an expanded size. The method further includes detecting movement of the finger contact on the touch screen display and moving the expanded insertion marker in accordance with the detected movement of the finger contact from the first location to a second location in the graphics.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one- dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.
Abstract:
A multifunction device with a touch-sensitive display: displays a text entry region and a soft keyboard with default keys; detects a contact at a first location on the touch-sensitive display that corresponds to an activation region associated with a respective default key; detects an immediate subsequent movement of the contact on the touch-sensitive display; in response to detecting the immediate subsequent movement, displays an array of keys including alternate keys for the respective default key; detects liftoff of the contact at a second location on the touch-sensitive display; and, in response to detecting the liftoff, when the second location corresponds to an activation region associated with a respective alternate key, ceases to display the array and inserts a character associated with the respective alternate key into the text entry region.
Abstract:
A portable multifunction device (100) displays a first icon and a second icon on its touch screen display (112). In response to a sequence of finger movements across the first and second icons, wherein the finger stays in contact with the touch screen display (112) during the movements, the portable device highlights the first icon for at least a predefined time period if a parameter such as distance, pressure, contact area, voltage or capacity, associated with the finger' s position relative to the touch screen display (112) meets a first predefined condition and then highlights the second icon for at least the predefined time period if the parameter associated with the finger's position relative to the touch screen display (112) meets a second predefined condition. The pre-defined conditions may comprise the finger moving into a pre-defined range around the icons.
Abstract:
A plurality of icons are displayed on a touch-sensitive display. A respective icon in at least a subset of the plurality of icons corresponds to two or more symbols. A contact by a user with the touch-sensitive display that corresponds to the respective icon is detected. A respective symbol in the two or more symbols to which the contact further corresponds is determined. The displayed respective icon is modified to indicate that the contact corresponds to the respective symbol.
