Abstract:
A cable (5) is inserted, by way of a free end (2.1), into a tube (2) wound around a tube reel (1) which is fixed, with its winding axis (y) vertical, onto a carrier (7). The carrier with the tube reel is subjected to a periodical movement having a vertical component and a longitudinal component. The vertical component is a vertical oscillation having a period (P) and an amplitude (Av = gP /32) for an, at any rate approximately, "free-fall" movement during part of each period, preferably during half a period. The longitudinal component is an oscillating rotation around the vertical winding axis of the tube reel having the same period (P) and an amplitude (AL). The "free-fall" movement is preferably commenced when the rotational direction of the oscillating rotation is reversed and becomes backward, as opposed to the insertion direction of the cable. Three embodiments of a device are described.
Abstract:
An integrated circuit card (=ICC) with file oriented memory structure, a secure application module (=SAM) with file oriented memory structure, a system comprising a SAM and a terminal and a method for controlling service actions in a multiple service application mechanism to be carried out by the terminal on the ICC including the following steps: a) establishing whether said terminal is allowed to carry out said service action on said integrated service card by using at least one key stored both on said ICC and on said SAM and by checking on said SAM predetermined access rights stored on said SAM; and b) carrying out said service action on said integrated service card.
Abstract:
For the transmission of co-ordinate data of pointing devices (4), such as a so-called mouse, from a terminal (1) to a server (2), use is made of a communication path (3) comprising a transmission channel (T) and a control channel (C). The transmission channel (T) may comprise a video channel (V), an audio channel (A) and/or a data channel (D). The co-ordinate data (S) is transmitted in the same representation as keyboard data, corresponding to the numeric keyboard, by way of the control channel (C). As a result, there are required no amendments to existing equipment, and a transmission of co-ordinate data may be achieved in a simple and effective manner.
Abstract:
A tube connector comprising an elongate hollow body with an opening at both ends for receiving the end of a tube of a pair of tubes to be coupled to each other, which tube connector comprises means for providing, upon completion of the connection between the connector and the tubes to be connected, a passage for air from the interior of at least one of the tubes to the surroundings. The use of such connectors in installing glass fiber cables or bundles in a tube line consisting of more than one tube by means of a blowing technique has an advantage that the course of the pressure gradient along the tube line is more linear than in the case where the connectors couple the successive tubes completely hermetically.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of securely loading and validating commands (COM) in a smart card (SC). Especially in the case where application-specific commands are loaded by an application provider (AP), that is off-line with respect to the card issuer (CI), it must be ensured that the commands are valid. The invention provides a method involving the protection of the commands (COM) by means of authentication codes, these codes (MAC1, MAC2) being produced using two different keys: one key (K1) is stored by the card issuer (CI), the other (K2) by a trusted third party (TTP). A further authentication code (MAC3), produced using a key from a set of keys (K3*), may be utilized to selectively validate commands for individual applications (e.g. AP1, AP2).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a system (1) for electronic orders and payments by means of a communication network (6), such as a telephone network. A facilitating unit (2) comprising a voice response system (21) and a communication server (22) makes it possible, with the aid of simple subscriber equipment (8, 10) and a smart card (9), to order services and to effect electronic payments. The facilitating unit (2) is designed so as to be readily scalable and expandable. Preferably, it is also possible to revalue a smart card (9) by way of the system (1) of the invention.
Abstract:
Prior art telecommunication systems, having per cell a base station and a few repeaters, are inefficiently composed. By making use of a new cell structure, in which a cell consists of three hexagonal and equilateral sub-cells possessing one common point at the place where the base station is situated, having per sub-cell a repeater centrally situated in the sub-cell, a telecommunication system is obtained which is very efficiently composed as far as distribution in space is concerned, and by dividing a sub-cell into three equal sectors and providing it with an extra repeater, a telecommunication system is obtained which is very efficiently composed as far as time division is concerned, on account of the fact that loss of usable time slots, present due to application of a first repeater, is compensated for by application of a second repeater, in which the loss of usable time slots, present due to application of the second repeater, is compensated for by application of the first repeater. Both repeaters are in this case, for example, so-called alternating slot repeaters.
Abstract:
Known interface arrangements for coupling a first arrangement based on a first protocol and a second arrangement based on a second protocol are not flexible. By providing a memory of the interface arrangement with at least a first memory field for storing second information elements and a second memory field for storing third information elements, and by comparing a first information element received from the first arrangement with the stored second information element and in case of equality supplying either the received first information element or the stored second information element to the second arrangement and in case of inequality further comparing the received first information element with the stored third information element and selecting a stored second information element which corresponds to the stored third information element and supplying the selected stored second information element to the second arrangement, an interface arrangement is created which is very flexible.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for protected payment with electronic payment means, such as "intelligent" payment cards ("smart cards"), in a variable number of steps. In this connection, use is made of a non-reversible function (F), of which successive function values ( beta i) are provided by the payment means (1, I) to the payment station (II) in question by way of proof of payment. On the basis of these function values ( beta i), there may take place both a verification and a determination of the number of steps. Such method finds application, e.g., in public telephones and in copiers. The invention further relates to a payment means and a payment system for applying the method.
Abstract:
Interactive communication and transport system in which communication for the purpose of requests takes place between requesting receiving stations (B) and one or more request-processing transmitting stations (A) provided with a source (1-4) of information of separately specifiable bulk data via a relatively low-speed communication path in a first network (6), and the forwarding of the requested bulk data to receiving stations (B) specified in the requests by transmitting means (14-17) takes place in a packet-switched mode via a relatively high-speed transmission path in a second network (10). Supervisor means incorporated in the system assign temporary destination addresses to the receiving stations (B) for the forwarding and grant permission for forwarding to the transmitting workstations (A) on request; the actual forwarding takes place after a respective transmitting station (A) which has received permission has detected by means of 'end of packet' -detection means (18) that transmission of a previous packet has been completed. Advantages are that the data channel along which the picture data is transported is used more efficiently and that one-off forwarding of picture data to a group of destinations is possible both on request and dynamically from the system.
