A method for concurrent bandwidth aggregation (COBA) for a client via multiple wireless networks includes requesting a packet data session for a first path on a first wireless network using a first modem of the multi-modem UE via a packet core network of the first wireless network. The method further includes requesting a packet data session for a second path on a second wireless network via the packet core network of the first wireless network using a second modem of the multi-modem UE. The method also includes receiving packet data over at least the second path on the second wireless network via the packet core network of the first wireless network.
Abstract:
Techniques for dynamic task distribution and processing in a wireless communication system are described. In one embodiment, the wireless communication system includes a sensor configured to measure a characteristic and to transmit information indicative of the measured characteristic. The system includes a mobile device configured to receive and aggregate the information transmitted by the sensor, perform one or more tasks related to the aggregated information, determine whether a condition necessary for transferring a subset of the tasks is satisfied, and transfer the subset of the tasks for further performance. The system further includes a local gateway device configured to receive and aggregate the information indicative of the measured characteristic from the sensor and perform tasks related to the aggregated information, receive and perform the transferred subset of the tasks from the mobile device, and transfer the tasks for further performance.

A method of facilitating communication in a wireless ad-hoc network comprises: generating, at a node in the wireless ad-hoc network, target availability information with regard to one or more transmission slots, the target availability information indicating whether the node is permitted to receive a transmission during each transmission slot; generating, at the node, owner availability information with regard to one or more transmission slots, the owner availability information indicating whether the node is permitted to transmit during each transmission slot; and broadcasting, from the node, the target availability information and the owner availability information to separately indicate availability as either an owner or a target for one or more transmission slots.

In various embodiments, communication apparatus and methods for providing robust communications are disclosed. For example, an exemplary communication apparatus for distributing media to one or more receiving apparatus may include receiving circuitry configured to receive a first wireless multimedia broadcast signal containing at least a first media stream, transmitting circuitry configured to wirelessly transmit one or more individual media streams simultaneously to the one or more receiving apparatus using one or more wireless transmit signals, and decision circuitry configured to control the transmitting circuitry to transmit the first media stream to at least one receiving apparatus using at least one wireless transmit signal type based on a forward-link data capacity of each wireless channel between the transmitting circuitry and each receiving apparatus.

Demographic information regarding a user of a mobile device is inferred by observing the user's mobile device usage behavior. Bayesian probability principles are applied to the observed usage behavior in order to infer a most likely demographic category classification. Probabilities of the user being a member of various demographic category classifications may be obtained from population surveys. Conditional probabilities of the user being a member of a behavior category classification given a demographic category classification may also be obtained from population surveys. A most likely user demographic category can be determined by calculating the product of the probability of the user being a member of each of the demographic category classifications and the first conditional probability of the user being a member of the behavior category classification, and identifying the demographic category classification that yields a maximum relative likelihood. The user demographic category may alternatively be determined by a table look up using the determined behavior category classification.

Disclosed is a system to implement a method to deliver a coupon to a mobile device. A network entity may receive a telephone number from a mobile device operated by a caller. The network entity may obtaining identifying information about a target service provider as a function of the dialed telephone number. Using the identifying information about the target service provider, the network entity may obtain a coupon. The network entity then may send the coupon to the mobile device.

Aspects relate to automatic execution of a target action, which can be energy-intensive tasks, processing compute-intensive tasks, interaction with a node, or combinations thereof. A context aware trigger, power aware trigger, a randomly scheduled wakeup trigger, a deterministically scheduled wakeup trigger, and/or a predictively scheduled wakeup trigger can be utilized to determine the availability of contexts associated with the target action. Based on the availability of a context that should be available, one or more target actions are automatically executed and/or selectively suspended.
Abstract:
Mobile communication devices and wireless network device each can participate in, or solely provide, opportunistic data forwarding in a wireless network such as a wireless local area network or radio access network. A supporting node receives wireless communication between a transmitting node and a receiving node comprising packet data units (PDUs). The receiving node communicates to the transmitting node that one or more portions of the communication were not received, which is overheard by the supporting node. The supporting node can have sufficient over-the-air (OTA) allocation in its transmit opportunity to relay the failed portions to the receiving node. Thereby, techniques such as more robust error encoding, longer transmit allocations, etc., that would reduce the effective data throughput for OTA resources are avoided while providing an ability to more rapidly adapt to a changing channel state.

A communications node can receive a plurality of communication signals, each including a block of data estimates with respective quality metrics. Each block of data estimates can be derived from an original block of data sent over different wireless paths, or from a derived block of data estimates sent over a different wireless path. A data combining circuit can be used to combines the blocks of data estimates as a function of the respective quality metrics to produce an output set of data estimates with a derived quality metric.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for determining a suitability for a mobile client to display information are disclosed. A particular exemplary method includes receiving a plurality of sets of one or more first keywords on a mobile client, each set of first keywords associated with one or more respective first messages, monitoring user interaction of the respective first messages on the mobile client, performing learning operations on the mobile client with the first keywords based on monitored user interaction to estimate a set of keyword interest weights, receiving a set of target keywords associated with a target message, and displaying the target message on the mobile client based on the estimated keyword interest weights.
