Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for efficiently reporting channel state information (CSI) with limited overhead. In one aspect, if a user equipment (UE) is configured to transmit data and CSI to a base station periodically, the UE may transmit the CSI when the UE has data to transmit to the base station. In particular, the UE may transmit data and a CSI report during a transmission opportunity if the UE has data to transmit in the transmission opportunity. Otherwise, the UE may suppress transmission of the CSI report. In another aspect, a UE may be configured to transmit CSI to a base station when downlink channel conditions change. In particular, the UE may request to report CSI to the base station when channel conditions change, and the base station may trigger the UE to report the CSI after receiving the request.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for narrowband transmissions with finer granularity of reserved resources. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a configuration indicating first resource elements (REs) reserved from being used for narrowband Internet of things (NB-IoT) transmissions in a subframe; determining second REs, in the subframe, for narrowband reference signals (NRSs), based on the configuration; and processing the NRSs on the second REs in the subframe.

Abstract: Apparatus, methods, and computer-readable media for facilitating using of pre-configured UL resources to transmit grant-free data or reference signals are disclosed herein. An example method for wireless communication by a UE includes transmitting, to a base station, a capability of the UE to transmit data in a first message of a random access procedure. The example method also includes receiving pre-configured UL resources from the base station. In some examples, the pre-configured UL resources may include at least one of shared UL resources and dedicated UL resources. The example method also includes transmitting data in the first message of the random access procedure using the pre-configured UL resources.

Abstract: In an aspect, a method of wireless communication includes receiving from a base station, by an enhanced coverage (EC) enhanced machine-type communications (eMTC) user equipment (UE) operating in connected mode, a notification of at least one of an earthquake and tsunami warning system (ETWS) transmission or a commercial mobile alert (CMAS) transmission. The method additionally includes receiving, by the EC eMTC UE in response to the notification, the at least one of the ETWS transmission or the CMAS transmission. In another aspect, a method of wireless communication includes transmitting, by a base station to an EC eMTC UE operating in connected mode, a notification of at least one of an ETWS transmission or a CMAS transmission. The method additionally includes transmitting, by the base station to the EC eMTC UE, the at least one of the ETWS transmission or the CMAS transmission.

A BS and a UE may communicate using a narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) communication system. However, a frequency, time, and/or power associated with transmission of a SIB1-NB on a non-anchor carrier may not be configured for NB-IoT. In some aspects, the BS may determine parameters, such as a time domain location parameter, a frequency domain location parameter, a quantity of repetitions, a power boosting parameter, and/or the like for a transmission in NB-IoT. In some aspects, a UE may determine to transmit a connection request message on a different carrier than a random access channel message.

One or more multicast RLC legs may be used for multicast and/or unicast transmission to wireless devices and a unicast RLC leg may be used for unicast transmission to a specific wireless device. Abstract: A low complexity user equipment (UE) may be in communication with another UE (e.g., with a premium UE or more capable UE) via a device-to-device communication link (e.g., via sidelink), and the low complexity UE may leverage the device-to-device link to improve (e.g., simplify, expedite, etc. ) random access procedures performed by the low complexity UE. For example, a low complexity UE may request contention free random access (CFRA) resources via the device-to-device link with another UE. Another device (e.g., another UE in device-to-device communication with the low complexity UE) may receive the request from the low complexity UE and forward the request to the network (e.g., to a base station). The network may then configure CFRA resources for the low complexity UE. Upon receiving the CFRA configuration, the low complexity UE may perform a random access procedure (e.g., a CFRA procedure) with the network (e.g., with the base station) accordingly.
