Abstract:
The invention concerns a method (200) and system (100) for performing a trick mode on a video signal containing a plurality of original pictures. The invention includes the steps of, in response to a trick mode command, selectively repeating (216) at least one of the original pictures to convert the video signal to a trick mode video signal having the original pictures and at least one repeated original picture and selectively displaying (218) at least a portion of the original picture and at least a portion of the repeated original pictures in accordance with a predetermined sequence to avoid a vibration artifact. Each original picture and each repeated original picture can contain at least two fields.
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments relate to a system (12) for providing remote tuning and clock synchronization in a network (14). The system (12) includes a device (18) that receives a signal (15) that includes a plurality of channels, a device (19) that receives a user request indicative of a desire to view at least one of the plurality of channels, and a filter (19) that filters the received signal and transmits a user signal corresponding to the at least one of the plurality of channels to the user. An alternative embodiment of the system (12) includes a device (18) that receives a signal (15) that includes a plurality of packets, at least a portion of the plurality of packets comprising an embedded time stamp, a device (19) that detects the at least a portion of the plurality of packets containing the embedded time stamp, and a device (19) that computes an adjusted time stamp based on the embedded timestamp and a precision local clock (51) and incorporates the adjusted timestamp into the at least a portion of the plurality of packets containing the embedded timestamp prior to transmitting the at least a portion of the plurality of packets to the network (14).
Abstract:
A gateway apparatus (20) is capable of distributing audio, video, and/or data signals in a household and/or business dwelling using the existing coaxial cable infrastructure. According to an exemplary embodiment, the gateway apparatus (20) includes signal processing elements (21-32) which receive signals from a satellite source and process the received signals to generate analog signals corresponding to a desired satellite transponder. A controller (34) enables generation of the analog signals responsive to a request signal. The analog signals are provided to a client device (40) via a coaxial cable connecting the gateway apparatus (20) and the client device (40).
Abstract:
An intended recipient of an instant message receives notification of that message via a caller identification message displayed on a device (26, 28, 32) capable of displaying caller identification messages. Upon receipt of an instant message, a broadband modem (16) generates a caller identification message that is then routed by a router (22) to the caller identification display device(s).
Abstract:
A method and system for providing personal video recording ("PVR") functions to a client viewing a broadcast program in a multi-client network (10). To provide the PVR functions, predetermined storage limits are allocated for each client in a storage device (32) on the network (10). Each client is permitted to execute the PVR functions if the client's stored broadcast programming has not reached the client's predetermined storage limit. Otherwise, the client is only permitted to view the broadcast program in real time or the stored broadcast program. A client may clear space in the client's allocated portion of the storage device by fast-forwarding through stored broadcast programming.
Abstract:
A system and apparatus for delivering ancillary information related to a resource request, such as advertisements, to a resource requester via a gateway device. The invention describes the components of the gateway device receiving a request from a resource requester (210) and the gateway device referencing the request for ancillary information (240), either internally or externally via a database. Additional elements to the invention include the gateway device receiving information representing the requested resource, from a resource provider, and ancillary information related to the resource (250), and the transmission by the gateway device of ancillary information and the resource to the resource requester (260).
Abstract:
A method, device, and computer readable medium for adaptively configuring a router (106) monitors data packets propagating in a network (103) to detect (304) a statically configured network device (104). A network interface (108, 110) within the router (106) is adapted (310) to network parameters associated with the statically configured network device (104) to operatively couple the statically configured network device (104) to the router (106).
Abstract:
A gateway apparatus (20) is capable of distributing signals such as audio, video, and/or data signals in a household and/or business dwelling using the existing coaxial cable infrastructure, and the signal distribution is controlled using the coaxial cable infrastructure as a back channel. According to an exemplary embodiment, the gateway apparatus (20) includes signal processing elements (21, 24, 25, 26) for receiving signals from a broadcast source and processing the received signals to generate processed analog signals. A back channel demodulator (27) receives a request signal from a client device (30) via a coaxial cable connecting the gateway apparatus (20) and the client device (30). The processed analog signals are provided to the client device (30) via the coaxial cable responsive to the request signal.

Abstract:
A server apparatus receives packetized data and transmits the packetized data over a network. The apparatus includes an input for receiving the packetized data from a signal source. An AC clock counter receives an AC power signal and generates a count value in dependence upon a frequency of the AC power signal. An output is coupled to the network and transmits the packetized data and the count value to a client device. A clock associated with the client device is controlled in dependence upon the count value.
