The present invention relates to a method for detecting microcystin-producing strains and strains that do not produce said toxin within populations of Microcystis aeruginosa (Cyanobacteria) by means of the use of Ulex europaeus agglutinin 1 (UEA-1), of a probe for labelling the lectin and of the means necessary for detecting the probe. A process of making a tack-free gel for a trocar seal is disclosed wherein a mold of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is formed from a mold cavity. A molten gel of LDPE having a high molding temperature is poured or injected into the mold cavity. The tack-free gel is then formed as a thin layer of plastic of the mold cavity is melted over the gel. The process may further include the step of dabbing the gel in a low-friction powder such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and a lubricant. The tack-free gel provides an elongation or stretch as great as 1500 percent and is therefore ideally suited to form a zero seal.

The invention relates to the instantaneous identification and characterisation of samples with no prior treatment, using the dynamic combination of laser ablation and mathematical algorithms. The method consists in analysing a single laser pulse in order to obtain a spectrum of the sample, which is compared with a dynamic spectral database using a neural network that allows a large amount of data to be handled in a very short space of time with 100% sensitivity and specificity. The identification and characterisation technique is quick and direct and allows the correlation of analytical data with organoleptic properties or quality properties, as well as the determination of contaminating, pathogenic or bioactive compounds and substances present in samples, in all states of the material and without any form of prior preparation.
