Abstract: A process and diastereomeric salts useful for the optical resolution of racemic alpha -[4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)phenyl]-4-(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)-1-piperidinebutanol, 4-[4-[4-(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)-1-piperidinyl]-1-hydroxybutyl]- alpha , alpha -dimethylbenzeneacetic acid and lower alkyl 4-[4-[4-(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)-1-piperidinyl]-1-hydroxybutyl]- alpha , alpha -dimethylbenzeneacetates. The process comprises placing into solution a chiral resolving agent, either (+)/(-)-di-paratoluoyltartaric acid or (-)/(+)-mandelic acid, in an amount equimolar to a compound corresponding to the desired enantiomer of the above compound, precipitating the resulting diastereomeric salt between the chiral resolving agent and the target enantiomer and separating the enantiomer.

Abstract: A pair of first and second concrete layers (1) and (2) that are disposed with a gap between them are connected by, for example, a corrugated plate (3) having an amplitude having a uniform size so as to provide a hollow structure between the layers (1) and (2), and the overall weight of the concrete panels can be reduced by this hollow structure. The corrugated plate (3) has a trapezoidal rectangular section, for example, and its bottoms and sides are buried into the first and second concrete layers (1) and (2) so that the compressive strength in the direction of the wave pitch of the corrugated plate (3) can be improved and rigidity of the concrete panels can be improved as a whole by the plane holding effect by diagonal members of a truss structure of the corrugated plate (3).

Abstract: A carrier for deposition of microorganisms, comprising a web W1 comprising a first fiber of a polyolefin resin and a second fiber of a polyolefin resin having a melting temperature below that of the first fiber, and a nonwoven fabric f1 as a base layer, wherein the web W1 is adhered to the nonwoven fabric f1 by means of needle punching and the first fiber and the second fiber are mutually bound by taking advantage of melting of the second fiber with the first fiber bound to the nonwoven fabric f1. According to this carrier, the separation of the first fiber contributing to the deposition of microorganisms can be prevented, and at the same time gathering of the web by means of needle punching can be prevented with the aid of the nonwoven fabric f1, eliminating a variation in weight.

Abstract: An El panel package film which is, for instance, a PCTFE film or a PET film having a moisture-proof layer. At least one side of the EL panel package film is roughened. The arithmetic mean roughness (Ra) and maximun height (Ry), which are specified by JIS G 0601, are not less than 3 mu m and not less than 10 mu m respectively. The EL panel package film is used as at least the package film on the light-emitting side of an EL panel. Vibration which is caused by the inversion of the polarity of the AC voltage applied to the EL panel is absorbed and diffused by the protrusions of the package film surface. A LCD module has such EL panel as a back light. The noises from the surfaces of LCD cells can be reduced.
