Abstract:
Provided are alternatives for improving coding efficiency when an AR-FGS technique and an FGS motion refinement technique are applied to scalable video coding. When prediction of a residual signal an FGS layer is not performed, a ' prediction signal of a block related to the FGS layer is predicted in the same manner as the manner of predicting a prediction signal of a base quality layer. A scaling factor is allowed to have a non-zero value if required, and the residual signal of the FGS layer is used to determine a scaling factor of a higher FGS layer. The AR-FGS and FGS motion refinement techniques are restricted from being simultaneously used for key pictures.

The apparatus for encoding a video image including: an overlapped region (OR) detector for receiving coding region information about a plurality of regions of interest (ROI) in the video image to encode and detecting overlapped regions (OR) in the ROI regions; a region arranger for arranging the video image, the regions of interest and the detected overlapped regions into a plurality of layers according to a resolution; and a region encoder for encoding the video image, the regions of interest and the detected overlapped regions according to a resolution of a corresponding layer arranged at the region arranger. The coding region information may include information about locations of the regions of interest in the video image and a coding resolution of the regions of interest. A video encoding/decoding apparatus according to the present invention provides a complete scalability of a spatial domain by defining a region of interest (ROI) in a video image. Also, the video encoding/decoding apparatus according to the present invention provides an improved coding rate by encoding video image in consideration of spatial redundancy among a plurality of regions of interest.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for rapidly and precisely altering colors on a display device provided in the user’s terminal so that a user having color vision deficiency can obtain the same color information as a normal person. The present invention enables a user having color vision deficiency to normally view all the colors displayed on a display device in such a way as to automatically diagnose color vision deficiency via the web, generate an automatic color alteration palette based on the diagnosis results, and install the automatic color alteration palette in the display device provided in a user’s terminal, so as to provide altered colors to a person having color weakness as well as a color deficient person.
Abstract:
The present invention solves the problem of automatically recognizing multiple known faces in photos or videos on a local computer storage device (on a home computer). It further allows for sophisticated organization and presentation of the photos or videos based on the graphical selection of known faces (by selecting thumbnail images of people). It also solves the problem of sharing or distributing photos or videos in an automated fashion between 'friends' who are also using the same software that enables the invention. It further solves the problem of allowing a user of the invention to review the results of the automatic face detection, eye detection, and face recognition methods and to correct any errors resulting from the automated process.
Abstract:
Provided is a scalable video coding method and apparatus. Motion data of a high-quality fine grain scalability (FGS) layer is used for interlayer coding in order to remove redundancy between coarse grain scalability (CGS) layers or layers having different spatial resolutions, and information indicating that data of the FGS layer has been used for interlayer motion prediction is inserted for Moving Picture Expert Group (MPEG)-4 scalable video encoding. A bitstream extractor checks the information and performs extraction to maintain the data of the FGS layer. MPEG-4 scalable video decoding is performed using the information. By using the FGS layer, interlayer redundancy can be efficiently removed, thereby improving encoding efficiency.
Abstract:
Methods of coding a bitstream in which the frames are encoded for enabling a spatial resolution is changed in real time, extracting the bitstream by adding a signaling message indicating that the spatial resolution is changed, and decoding the bitstream in which the spatial resolution is changed in real time after actively detects whether the spatial resolution is changed without additional information, and a codec using the methods are provided. Therefore, if the network has the restricted environment that the resolution is changed in real time while a video encoding and decoding or if there is a need to output the video whose the spatial resolution is partly changed in the decoder, the present invention provides methods to actively cope with the spatial resolution change of the video so as to efficiently watch the video.
