Abstract:
A particulate filter (4) regeneration system includes at least two microwave sources (6) for producing microwaves connected so that the microwaves heat particulate filter (4). Alternatively, there can be at least one microwave source (6) in communication with particulate filter (4) through a plurality of ports. A method of regenerating particulate filter (4) includes the steps of passing engine exhaust through particulate filter (4), followed by heating particulate filter (4) from a plurality of directions with microwaves.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for the production of ceramic matrix composites by chemical vapor infiltration. The method includes exposing an infiltrated preform (80) to microwave energy, with pressure variation of the reactant gases in the processing chamber (10) and/or temperature variation of the preform during processing, to produce substantially improved composites (80). The process provides higher deposition rates within the core of the ceramic matrix composite, higher densification which advantageously initiates within the interior of the ceramic matrix composite (80) and proceeds radially outward, and a thick wall ceramic matrix composite with an overall reduced density gradient.
Abstract:
A method of suppressing electrical breakdown on a surface of a substrate comprising the steps of applying a first coating layer (coating layer 2) on the surface of the substrate and applying at least one subsequent coating layer (coating layer 1) over the first coating layer.
