Abstract:
Method and apparatus for treating alkaline water containing solids An apparatus and method of treating alkaline water employs a neutralisation unit (3), including a store (15) of neutralising agent. A first container (1) receives alkaline water to be treated and a second container (2) receives alkaline water from the first container (1). Neutralising agent is fed from the store (15) into the second container (2) to reduce the pH of the alkaline water fed to the second container (2) from the first container (1). The first and second containers (1,2) and the neutralisation unit (3) are separate portable units.
Abstract:
A method of treating alkaline water includes the steps of i) providing a treatment unit that comprises first and second treatment tanks (1, 2) contained within a common structure; ii) placing a flexible bag into the first treatment tank (1); iii) inserting a gas introduction device(31) into the top of the bag with one or more outlets of the device in a lower region of the bag; iv) passing alkaline water containing some solids into the flexible bag; v) introducing carbon dioxide through the gas introduction device(31), the carbon dioxide passing into the water through the one or more outlets of the device; wherein water in an upper region of the first treatment tank (1) passes into the second treatment tank (2) and flows between a multiplicity of inclined plates (22) in the second treatment tank, solids separating out and collecting in a bottom region of the second treatment tank(2); and vi) subsequently withdrawing the gas introduction device (31) from the bag and thereafter removing the bag from the first treatment tank with solids retained in the bottom of the bag. An apparatus for carrying out the method is also provided.
Abstract:
A tank (3) for separating solids from a suspension of the solids in liquid comprises an upper region containing a multiplicity of inclined plates (21) and a lower region for collecting solids settling from the upper region. The tank further includes one or more vibrators (25) for vibrating the inclined plates in a direction aligned with their directions of inclination. The inclined plates are secured together in a common assembly (20) and the assembly is arranged to be vibrated by the one or more vibrators.
Abstract:
A tank for separating solids from a suspension of the solids in liquid, the tank having an upper region containing a multiplicity of inclined plates (9) and a lower region for collecting solids settling from the upper region, the lower region having a bottom (3) which is approximately level or gently sloping, the tank further including an inlet (16) for introducing the suspension into the tank, a liquid outlet (19) and a plurality of solids outlets (22) at different fixed positions at the bottom (3) of the tank for removing solids separated in the tank.
Abstract:
A mobile water treatment plant comprises a container (10) within which at least the following are provided: a plurality of tanks (32, 34, 36, 38) the plurality of tanks comprising a clarifying tank (36) fitted with a multiplicity of inclined plates (69) defining a multiplicity of channels there between, an upstream tank (34) from which water is arranged to be fed to the clarifying tank (36) and a downstream tank (38) to which water is arranged to be fed from the clarifying tank (36); means for introducing a neutralising agent into water in the upstream tank (34); at least one storage space within the interior space of the container (10), said at least one storage space including space for accommodating the neutralising agent. The container (10) is of generally cuboidal shape having a length greater than its width and having sides, ends, a top and a bottom and has corner fittings (20) placed at positions to allow the container (10) to be engaged by standard load handling equipment for handling freight containers and the overall width of the container (10) is substantially the same as the width of a standard freight container.
Abstract:
A method of neutralising washout from concreting operations comprises the steps of : providing a unit (10) to contain the washout, providing the unit (10) with a store of a neutralising agent (44, 45), receiving the washout in the unit (10), and transferring a washwater component from the washout receiving region (21) of the unit (10) to a washwater containment region (14) of the unit (10), and supplying the neutralising agent to the washout in the washwater containment region (14) of the unit (10).
Abstract:
A method of treating alkaline water comprises the steps of introducing water into a first compartment (1), bubbling carbon dioxide into the water in the first compartment (1), causing solids to precipitate, transferring water with solids that have precipitated into a second compartment (2), separating, in the second compartment (2), solids that have precipitated from the water, transferring water from which solids have been separated to a third compartment (3), bubbling carbon dioxide into the water in the third compartment to reduce the pH of the water, and removing water from the third compartment (3), the pH of the water removed from the third compartment (3) being lower than the pH of the water in the second compartment (2). The compartments are provided in a single portable unit.
