An interconnection for a modular in- flow fluid purification system that allows fluid to flow through a channel unhindered whilst introducing UV radiation to the fluid flow. The interconnection contains a channel with a first port and a second port, wherein there is an elbow located between the first and second port. The UV radiation source is positioned at the elbow so as to introduce UV radiation into the interconnection that is directed at the first port. The interconnection allows for the construction of a modular system that may be altered, by adding or removing said interconnections, to reach different levels of fluid purification.

A unit for wastewater treatment is provided. The unit (1) comprises a free- standing pre-assembled module on legs (2), a water inlet (4) and a water outlet (5), located in opposite sides of the unit (1). A screening compartment (6), containing a sieve (7) and a level transmitter (8) is arranged in the unit, and a grit trap compartment (13), containing a horizontal screw conveyor (14), and an inclined screw conveyor (15) is arranged downstream the screening compartment (6). Plates (22) are placed in said grit trap compartment (13) to create a vertical slit (23) after which there is a dosing point (24) for the metal salts. A polymer dosing zone (25) is located just before the outlet (26) of the grit trap compartment (13). A baffle (27) creates a gap (28) at the bottom of said grit trap compartment (13) and a weir (29) creates a horizontal barrier from the bottom of said grit trap compartment (13) followed by a mixing cavity (30) with a polymer dosing point (25) and an outlet (26). A method for operating the unit (1) is also provided.

A process for the treatment of minewater or other waste waters integrating existing treatment processes in a modular sealed system wherein the improved treatment system can make use of a positive head of water, either via siphon or conducted flow to displace pumping costs involved in water treatment. The improved process can to be located underground, as it is both modular and intensified, reducing the physical size of the treatment plant and increasing its flexibility. The improved process has a lower capital cost and reduced operating costs.

An intermodal container converted to a tank for processing wastewater has a process wall detachable from a hatchway in a wall of the container. The process wall is bolted to an interior facing flange in the container wall and is installed so as to sandwich a gasket and a lip between the process wall and the flange. When the process wall is at a container end wall, first components for interface with water to be treated are sealingly fixed into one part of the process wall designed to be below the level of contained water. Second process components such as those associated with communication cabling, power cabling or piping to be run through the converted container are sealingly fixed into an upper part of the process wall above a design level of contained water to be treated.
