摘要: There is described a ventilator for providing breathable air to a patient. The ventilator includes an airbag defining a longitudinal axis, having a first end, a second end, and a foldable wall extending from the first end to the second end, and being movable from a decompressed state to a compressed state by moving the first end along the longitudinal axis relative to the second end. The wall has fold lines formed therein such that, during movement of the airbag from the decompressed state to the compressed state, the wall is folded along the fold lines. The fold lines define at least one polygonal surface portion of the wall. The ventilator further includes an actuator for driving compression and decompression of the airbag, and a controller for controlling the actuator.

摘要: A diffuse-optical-spectroscopy system and method for scanning human tissue is provided. The system includes: (a) a handheld probe operable to emit electromagnetic radiation at one or more wavelengths corresponding to absorption associated with one or more human-tissue constituents, respectively, the handheld probe being operable to detect received electromagnetic radiation at each of the wavelengths; and (b) a processor operable to produce, in response to the received electromagnetic radiation, one or more cross-sectional images of the human tissue respectively associated with the wavelengths. The handheld probe includes first and second sources for emitting the electromagnetic radiation and one or more sensors for detecting the received electromagnetic radiation. The sensors are aligned along a first axis and face in an outward direction. The first and second sources are aligned along the first axis, face in the outward direction, and are disposed on either side of the sensors.

摘要: A method of electrochemical deposition of a metallic material onto a substrate is provided. The method includes providing an alkaline solution of hydroxide ions, immersing a metallic material precursor and the substrate into the alkaline solution to form an electrochemical bath, and electrochemically depositing a textured layer of the metallic material onto the substrate. A method of electrochemical deposition of a textured nanoparticle is provided. The method includes providing an alkaline solution of hydroxide ions, immersing the metallic material into the alkaline solution to form an electrochemical bath, and precipitating the textured nanoparticles from the electrochemical bath. 摘要: A hybrid atmospheric water generator (HAWG) utilizing, in certain embodiments, a core atmospheric water generator (105) and a preconditioning unit (110) to increase humidity of air prior to water condensation. The core atmospheric unit comprises a condensing unit (106) having a water condensing heat exchanger (107) coupled to source of cooling (109). The preconditioning unit (110) includes a heat exchanger (112) and a sorption unit (114) configured to store moisture for release when air is passed through or near the sorption unit (114). The heat exchanger (112) is used to increase the temperature of air moving into or through the preconditioning unit (110) in order to increase the amount of moisture the air is able to store. The preconditioning unit enables the generation of more water per energy unit expended and/or generating water from ambient air under conditions in which traditional atmospheric water generators cannot function.

摘要: Described herein are stable hydroxide ion-exchange polymers. The polymers include ionenes, which are polymers that contain ionic amines in the backbone. The polymers are alcohol-soluble and water-insoluble. The polymers have a water uptake and an ionic conductivity that are correlated to a degree of N-substitution. Methods of forming the polymers and membranes including the polymers are also provided. The polymers are suitable, for example, for use as ionomers in catalyst layers for fuel cells and electrolyzers.
